Clearing a contract slot

Segal was on an NHL contract. Fornataro is on an AHL contract, which doesn't count against our contract limit.

So the question now is: Whose contract is coming in to take Segal's place?

So that would confirm that the phones do in fact work and that's not been an issue.

It's not like the Hawks were at the limit.

Send a message via ICQ to DisgruntledHawkFan
Segal likely gets to play for Tampa and the hawks do him a solid.

Well, you know, reception seems to be a bit spotty which leads me to believe they're carrying AT&T. Time to switch to verizon and acquire a 2nd/3rd line center.

Intersting name possibly available

Jamie McBain of Carolina as Rutherford says teams have called about him

Young , Right handed... That is guy Hawks should have no trouble overpaying for as he would fit longterm

Hawks have been scouting the Canes these last few games

Keith-Seabrook
Hjalmarsson-McBain
Leddy-Montador

If Huet counts as an NHL contract, we have 47 NHL contracts on the books. This bodes well for teams who would like to deal for picks in order to develop their own players rather than take some of our prospects.

I'm confused about the direction of their team. It sounds like they'll keep Ruutu. They also just re-signed Gleason.

Seems like they want to retool on fly

The down year they have had IMO is not true to talent they have on roster

Staal, Skinner, and Ward are good pieces to build around for sure. That's why it would make sense to rebuild, not re-sign somewhat older, solid players like Gleason and Ruutu to fix things on the fly.

You gotta also keep in mind Carolina isn't exactly a prime location for free agents, although older players like the area for family reasons.

Canes wont spend on big stars but players do sign there for the reason you just stated

Also good place for guys who are trying to rebuild there careers to go or reclamation projects (Samsonov , Ruutu , Jokinen , Pitkanen , etc as examples of guys who turned it around)

I know they are solid. I stated that in the post you quoted. I don't think fixing the team on the fly is the best solution. With a weak market for defenseman and top-six forwards, they could've gotten a very nice haul for Gleason and Ruutu. I'm talking a couple of first round picks and maybe a solid prospect or two. Teams have overpaid and will continue to. Quincey just got deal for a first round pick. I just think it would be in Carolina's best interests to rebuild for about two years. You'll still have Ward, Skinner, and Staal. I guess they feel they can develop more solid players with the picks and prospects they have to build off those three, Gleason, and Ruutu.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Pitkanen. He's easy to forget about since he's been banged up for awhile.

I like the creativity by Holland to get a guy who they know well and adds some depth on their blue line. I'd like to think Stan is capable of the same forward thinking and I hope I'm not just dreaming.

What you just said basically is a way of advocating to see the return of Campoli, whether or not you meant it.

Quincey is solid, but I wouldn't give up a first round selection or him. In fairness, Detroit's pick will be a late first, though. I'd like to see the Hawks pick up McBain, Leopold, or just a solid guy who can sure up the bottom pairing and play in the top-four in a pinch. Another good scoring forward would also be a glorious acquisition.
