[QUOTE=RangerBoy;44028679]This team reminds me a lot of the 1991-92 team. 50-25-5. If it wasn't for that stupid strike, they would've won the Cup that year. That was a tough team. They took off in January and February. Dog days of the NHL season.
This team is better in goal. Better on D. They don't have Brian Leetch. Better depth overall. Jay Wells(Randy Moller trade),Joe Cirella,Mark Hardy and Par Djoos behind Leetch,James Patrick and Jeff Beukeboom. Mark Messier won the Hart that year. Adam Graves,Tony Amonte,Mike Gartner,Sergei Nemchinov,Darren Turcotte,Kris King,Paul Broten,Tie Domi,Randy Gilhen,John Ogrodnick,Tim Kerr and Doug Weight. That team had more offensive firepower. This team is bigger up front. It was a different game.
That team didn't make many trades
Corey Millen for Gilhen
Absolutely they would have won the Cup that year. If you recall, they were on an incredible roll in March and then there was a work stoppage, which stopped their momentum cold. They still would have won the Cup - they were beating Pittsburgh 2-1 in Pittsburgh, after having won 2 of the first three, when Richter let in a 65 foot flip from the blueline. Pittsburgh went on to win the game, series and Cup.
Rangers also would have won a few cups in the 80's except for the Potvins.
Yea, I actually like Pierre. Sure, he talks way too much, but he's a class act who knows his stuff. Also really respects the Rangers. Put Doc in his place.
I said it in the GDT, Doc was trying his hardest to give as little credit as possible to the Rangers. Pierre asked "Is there a team that blocks more shots than the Rangers?" and Doc responded with "I'm trying to think of a team that does." Rack your brain all you want, Doc, you won't be able to think of another team.
Usually, Doc is unbiased, but today he was making little digs and holding back from saying anything complimentary about the Rangers. His Devils beat the Rangers earlier this week, not sure why he was acting so bitter.
How does a team that got into OT of game 7 in the ECF last year suck this bad? Really.
Because they have 3 GREAT offensive players and their goalie was in the zone for that run. Other than that, they're very mediocre and personally, I think Guy Boucher is a horrible coach and his trap system is pitiful, especially for the team he has. it's a gimmick that belongs in NHL 12. And people were calling him an Adams nominee last season. Sheesh. Hell be gone soon, IMO.

Defense was pretty good too though. Where has that gone?
I was thinking of starting a new thread but decided against it. I really think McDonagh is playing than Staal has ever played and even if Staal returns to form McDonagh will be a better defenseman for his career. Defensively, I don't see McD behind Staal and offensively it's not even close. There's a poll on the main boards and Staal's killing it. I think people are going by rep. I can probably count on one hand, the bad games McD has had all year. The game against Tampa when we lost 3-2 in a SO and a few games around that time (that was his slump, a couple of games at around that point in the season). IMO he's one of the very best defensemen in the league.
