Gagne skating again

http://lakingsinsider.com/2012/02/12...medium=twitter

Quote:
Things didnít go very well for the Kings in New York yesterday, but things went better for one of the Kings in Los Angeles. Simon Gagne skated for approximately a half-hour yesterday, in what apparently was his first time on the ice since he suffered a concussion in the Dec. 26 game against Phoenix. Gagneís short-term and long-term status remains unknown, but the fact that Gagne felt good enough to get on the ice is a positive development for the 31-year-old winger. Kings officials had privately expressed concern that Gagne might be sidelined for the rest of the season. Gagne, who is under contract through next season, has seven goals and 10 assists in 34 games this season and is a former two-time 40-goal scorer.

good news indeed

I expect him to return by Christmas, along with Adam Deadmarsh and Jason Allison.

Even if he comes back, it's going to take him awhile to get back into games.

This is good news. Hopefully he can be ready to go in a month or so.

Great news. May be best just to sit him the rest of the year and know you potentially have a healthy gagne for the 2012 season.

Brown Kopi Williams
Gags Richards Free Agent/Trade?
Richardson Lotki Lewis

sounds like a top 9 you can live with for sure.

On a personal level I am happy to see him get healthy again.

Organizationally, however, it is clear that Gagne is not the same player he was 2-3 years ago. He is no longer a 1st (or even 2nd) line player. Having him under contract for another year is just dead cap money.

That 3rd line has a total of six goals all season. You can live with that?

He had chemistry with Kopi, if he can come back intime for the last 6 games of the season, then playoffs, we'll be good to go.

Also keep in mind that he had 0 goals and 4 assists in the last 17 games prior to his injury...all while playing on the 1st or 2nd line and getting lots of PP time. Those are worse than Penner type numbers.

And if Richards lack of production is any indication, Gagne will not be effective for many games coming back from a concussion.

He's been one of my favorite players since he came into to league and it's a shame he's had so many injuries.
I know when he was asked in the past about the concussions and worrying about his safety, as much as he loves the games he stressed (as you would expect he should) that is family comes first. He has 2 very young children under 3 and that should be his first concern, his health and he effect on him going forward.
So given he told Justin Williams after the injury not to aske how he was until he shaved, he must have known then it was not a career ender.
I dont' think he'll rush, he'll take it slow and he probably went to see the same pain management speciialist he had in 2008 that used nonconventional (no narcotics) methods of healing. He was very pleased with how much better (and quicker) he was able to heal.
In any event, take it slow and easy. It would be great if he was in shape by April to return.
But DL should not plan on that and still try to make a trade. SG coming back would be icing on the cake.

I imagine a year under Sutter's sytem plus another year of development for Lotki and that is going to show some improvements. I could see a third line that contributes close to 40 goals. Which isnt a huge number but when compared to this season and compared to the Kings GAA it will go a long way.

I agree with the target (40 goals) but I don't think the personal you listed will get it. Lewis and Loki each had 5 career goals each. Richardson's never reached past 10 in a season.

Now if they get Valeri Bure back in time along with Martin Straka, the Kings will be poised for a Cup run!

Quite the opposite. If he's got scrambled eggs above the neck he really has to start thinking about the rest of his life.
