What a *** awesome win! This game has me pumped!

If McDonald ends up sparking Berglund and Stewart's scoring down the stretch this team is going to be damn hard to beat and that will be multiplied even more when you have Steen and Arnott on the third line.

Was it honestly one of the worst things you see on here?

McDonald seemed like just the shot in the arm this power play needed.

Hopefully this will get Stewart going (Berglund is playing very well as of late).

Also, I made this point in another thread, but I figure it's a good talking point for a PGT:

Quote:
Provided we can stay healthy, our forward corps are going to look really good for the next few years considering who's in the pipeline.

Backes
Stewart
Perron
Oshie
Berglund
McDonald
Steen

Next year:
Tarasenko
Schwartz (?)
McRae (?)

The year after:
Rattie (?)

When you consider how our defensemen and goalies are set up, we're going to be at or near the top of the league for a long time. Wouldn't surprise me if I saw a cup in St. Louis sometime in the next five years (being conservative).
Any thoughts?

Can we keep all of our stuff in here? I don't see the point of posting Sobotka's hit on Thornton and stuff on the main board...nothing good ever comes out of it.

Feels weird to have a PGT but hey I like it.

I would hope in the next 2-3 years hard to say how the goaltending situation willl look past that.

WHat amazes me is the "level" of play suddenly came back. What was -that- special to make the Blues start skating and moving the puck.... certainly just Amac back on the ice wasn't enough to do that. We have looked lazy and pathetic since ASG and tonight looked like they had some purpose.

I think it's because the amount of crazy they're spewing forth is on a level never before seen. I mean usually there's like six dudes in a GDT that whine about officiating or "hurr trap" but they're like one step away from insisting the Blues somehow used secret time travel techniques learned from extraterrestrials to win.

I have a complicated relationship with San Jose. I actually spent a season covering their locker room back in the 90s. I was fresh out of college and got a gig with KFRC (then the flagship station) to collect sound after home games for the morning show. I was there the night Janney arrived in the trade for Norton (then the Sharks' captain). Janney = POS btw, and he immediately had everyone hating him. Superdouche.

Anyway, I've seen a bunch of games from San Jose. When I would go to games after that season I'd obviously wear my Blues jersey. I've seen games in a few road places (including Chicago) wearing a jersey and nothing comes close to the crap you hear from Sharks fans. Think of the inferiority strains of San Jose itself within the Bay Area combined with the generalized inferiority of hockey fans compared with other major sports fans – there's kind of an ugly chip on their shoulder. They trash talk as if they're Raider fans. I was watching a game in the city of San Francisco during the Olympics wearing my EJ jersey having lunch at a restaurant with a buddy where the game was on, and some douchenozzle went out of his way to shout something about the Blues – during a Team USA game. That's the mentality, as in, it's a point of pride that they prove they're good fans by the amount they publicly heckle. You can just watch the thought bubble: "I'll yell something here and spend the next hour thinking about how awesome I am and how I represent! I'll even tell my bros!" All fan bases heckle, there's no doubt. But across all sports and all parts of the country I've never encountered anything like the San Jose Shark fan as a species.

I'll never forget during the first game of that season I covered, it was a Blues game and the KFRC sports director had gotten me a seat by the glass as a gift. I heard a San Jose fan yell during the quiet lull, "GO HOCKEY!" I thought: in Montreal Forum or Boston Garden they'd literally be beating this man to death right now.

Last year, I actually lived in San Jose/Santa Clara and spent a lot of nights playing poker at Bay 101, a large casino (largest cardroom in the Bay Area) in San Jose itself. As you would expect, the room is full of a couple hundred men and well over a dozen large TV screens with sports on encircling the room. At least half of these men were caucasian (Asians typically aren't the biggest hockey fans). The Blues wouldn't even be playing and I'd have to go up to the board manager to request that he'd put on the Sharks game instead of one of the many TVs tuned to golf (at night ... on a Tuesday). It happened so often I began to think, geez, should I be tipping the guy to change the channel to put on the game (this is February and March playoff drive, mind you, games against the Wings and the like) of the only major sports franchise among the big four team sports with a San Jose chapter? (I decided screw that, if I felt like I had to tip, I didn't care about watching hockey just to watch it that much.)

The fact that Shark Owen Nolan essentially ended Courtnall's career (and he still has serious symptoms) with the dirtiest play in hockey – the sucker punch – combined with Thornton's complete cheap shot last year from which many Sharks and fans used to such catastrophically douchey effect (and yeah, Jamie Baker was on the team as a player back when I worked the room), basically there's no fan base I respect less than the San Jose Sharks fans. I love the Bay Area and will likely settle there. But there is a wonderful day every spring when they choke out, and it'll be no different this year.

We trap, have secret ice, and suck 5 on 5. I've learned so much about the Blues tonight. Petro was Lidstrom-esque tonight

I haven't been around the boards a very long time. But have the Devils always got this much disrespect from other fan bases around here? Although I will admitt San Jose fans are in a class of their own tonight.

I don't know what the deal is, but there is some sort of issue, disconnect, or something between Sharks and Blues fans, especially going into each other's GDTs. That needs to stop immediately. If you're a Sharks fan, please do not post in this thread. Blues fans, please stay out of the Sharks forum.

Also, just because you may be in a thread in your home board does not make you exempt from the rules. Keep it clean please!

Just got back from the game and read the their GDT and couldn't stop laughing... I didnt see the sharks once have a great play ruined by supposed bad ice.

I can appreciate the frustration, but it isn't going to do us any good reading their GDT, posting on their GDT, and whining about them on our boards.

I don't know, never underestimate the feelings a team gets when getting one of their better players back, especially after he's been out for awhile. Everyone is that much more excited to play and that much more pumped up, it's a huge boost to a team.

I really don't have a problem with Sharks fans. I just don't get why they don't give us a single piece of credit. Nashville has had our number all yr and I accept that. I don't want to see them in the playoffs. Sharks fans on the other hand I just really don't get.

Fair enough. Yeah, I can understand how that would be disappointing. However, in both that game and this game the Sharks weren't able to crack our defense either, and the 5 on 3 doesn't last the whole game. Most of the game is 5 on 5.

Dear mods, if y'all could at least PM a reason for the deletions of two perfectly calm and polite posts that'd be nice. The rules do not say that you cannot post on another team's GDT/PGT, only that you can not demean or cheer against the opposing team. I don't believe that that occurred, unless I'm misinterpreting the intention of bigPAVELSKI's post, which seemed more to be an explanation of why the Sharks' fans felt the way the do. I know I'm supposed to PM this, but I'm not sure who to PM this to.

I do not see this at all. I think, especially lately, we have been all over the puck. We break out quick and dominate offensive possession time.

Alex Pietrangelo was amazing tonight. It wasn't just the third period and I'm not even talking about the offense. Seriously, if he'd had zero points it would have been one of his most special games ever.

If he can find a way to take this performance and bottle it, just the defensive part, the Blues will go deep in the playoffs this year no matter how much his number is circled on the other locker room's whiteboard. Honestly that was jawdropping in every respect. PavelDatsyuk's comment near the end of the locked GDT is right on, there's just no real way to describe how ridiculous he was tonight. I wish I could re-watch this game and just isolate on Petro. If any of you have the game DVR'd and can do this, you won't regret the exercise. WOW. Franchise defenseman. Best young defenseman in the world hands down. Won't say "AINEC" but the margin is definitive.

The bad thing about a great game like that is the next game. I don't think the Blues have had a 5 game streak all year.

Yeah...I'm not too fond of the Sharks. But we're 3-0 against them this season so let them be mad.
