Definitely an enjoyable movie and worth seeing if you have any interest in it beforehand. I think my issue was expecting too much. That, and these two large women behind me who wouldn't shut up during the entire movie. Maybe that was part of the problem.

Weird, I actually think Shane's actor is one of the few on the show who does a good job.

For me...

Well acted:
-Glen (Asian bias notwithstanding, he shows versatility and big screen potential)
-Shane (I think he plays the badass, unstable guy quite well)
-Rick (could be better, but for a British guy playing a Georgian he's quite good)

Mediocre:
-Herschel
-Carol
-Daryl (was good early on, getting a bit forced lately)
-Dale
-Maggie (although my goodness, what a Georgia Peach)
-Herschel
-Sophia (when she was alive, not bad for a child actor)

Bad:
-Carl (but he's a child actor so it's to be expected - The Wire is one of the few to get child actors to perform)
-T-Dogg (although it's hard to say since he gets 1 line every month...)

Awful:
-Lori
-Andrea

Bering Sea Gold makes Gold Rush guys look like idiots. Why spend all that money, drive 28 hours to get to BFE, build a camp, buy all sorts of equipment that breaks constantly when you could just buy a rickety old barge, suck up the ocean and get more in 1 day than you got in an entire season digging 80 feet down?

LOL I bet they're watching that show going WTF????

Camarra is amazing it's Italian in subtitles. Scorcese produced it.

Once upon a time in America about the Jewish mob with a great ensemble.

Donnie Brasco
Scarface
Carlito's Way
I like Limey gangster movies, there are alot of great ones there as well.

The list goes on.........

Does anyone here like STRIKE BACK! on cinemax. It's the only non soft porn programming they have.

South Africa must of just passed a tax credit, that Safe house movie was shot there as was strike back and the history of America series was shot and produced down there as well.

To say the least. Enjoyed it nevertheless, will probably watch it again some time in the future to get to grips with the movie.

Can't get enough of the soundtrack though, love classic songs like em.

Just have to say, I already have the new Springsteen disc, and it's absolutely stunning. The new studio version of "Land of Hope and Dreams" is one of the greatest pieces of music that Bruce has EVER recorded. The fact that it includes Clarence's last recorded sax solo just adds to its perfection. Amazing.

I'm hoping to be able to turn up a version shortly...

How would you describe it compared to his past albums?

To me, it sounds a bit like Seeger Sessions crossed with The Rising. But where I found The Rising to be a bit disjointed, this one's more direct and consistent.

Wow, alright then. I think I'm probably going to like this. I was hoping the last record would be a follow up to the Rising, but like you said, 'better' is really how I'd like to say it. Less sad, more Bruce I suppose.

Sounds like this might be that record.

You suck haha, I gotta wait til 3/6

I'm not suprised to hear that Clarence is in it because apparantly Bruce had been working on this album for a couple of years (believe he wrote We Take Care of Our Own in '09 or something), but thats awesome that it is his last ever solo recorded

They released "Shackled and Drawn" from the new album today

Old man Dale needs to go, he's the biggest instigator on the show. Not to mention he tries to be a dad to everyone. So annoying.

Spoil:
Rick vs. Shane. Can't wait. All of their emotions and whatnot towards each other being bottled up can only make for an awesome standoff.

I watched the first season of Portlandia on Netflix. It is like a modern version of Kids in the Hall. Probably a little too off the wall for some, an interesting sketch show to say the least. I like it.

A few friends were trying to suggest we see that recently. I passed, preferring to see the Grey or Safe House. When I was going to see the Grey everything was sold out (as well as other movies) so I had no chance on that. Did see Safe House at least. Really still have no interest in Chronicle. Nothing in the trailer makes it look that good to be honest.

I thought that Chronicle, The Grey and Safe House all were varying degrees of disappointing.

The last year-plus has been pretty piss poor for movies in general, and in a world of sequels and remakes I went into all three films hoping for something new and entertaining. But what they had to offer was pretty hack.

Safe House was the most entertaining, I guess, albeit with a lowered bar. It had a pretty strong set up, and a Bourne-lite quality, but lost steam and credibility en route to a pat, safe and patently ridiculous ending. A "C" version of a "B" movie.

And it paled to comparable films in the Denzel oeuvre... His "edgy" character in "Training Day" was way more captivating and interestingly drawn, and I found myself remembering the very underrated "Man on Fire" with much more fondness, as well.

And the story "twists" were amateur hour compared to the actually clever "Inside Man".

The Grey was interesting in that it comes from a lesser seen genre, the "survival" film. And I have a soft spot for Liam Neeson, who turns 60 this year, having to run around acting like he is 15 years younger than he actually is...

But the cast of characters around the always watchable Mr. Neeson are paper thin and howlingly annoying, and the film is so frustrating that you cannot even enjoy watching them die off to the wolves.

The film is "downbeat", which is interesting, and the setting imposing, but it is so shallowly conceived you'd probably enjoy one of those "Man vs. Wild" shows on NatGeo every bit as much, for free.

And the signature image from the trailer and TV commercial, with Liam having the mini-liquor bottles taped to his hands, is very misleading. I'll leave it at that...

Chronicle had, by far, the most interesting premise of the three films. "What if" teenagers were given super powers, but instead of turning into Spiderman (or whatever superhero) and taking on adult responsibilities, they continued to act like teenagers.

And there are isolated moments within the film, where they are discovering their powers, that capture that perfectly.

But the film suffers in several key areas. Adding the gimmick of the film being a "found footage" film, shown primarily through the camcorder of one of the protagonists, makes it feel like watching idiots on YouTube for 90 minutes.

Which, based on ideal YouTube serving sizes, is about 88 minutes too much.

And although I hate actual teenagers (excluding any here on HF), and do not enjoy spending time with them, watching 25 year olds pretend to be highschoolers is almost worse (albeit standard Hollywood procedure.)

And the script suffers from the same "standard procedure". Feels like an amateur screenwriter got his or her first book on screenwriting, and after coming up with a brilliant "high concept" played it out by the numbers.

The three main characters each have one note, and each represent one archetype. There is the "sensitive" one, the "cerebral" one and the "social" one. And their behaviors can be tracked without nuance or any shades of grey.

And if that was thin enough, the rest of the participants in the film might as well have not existed -- because I can remember not a one of them. And whatever potential that was in the (great) idea vanishes like so much smoke.
