Well, yeah, but I figure that's part of the reason why I want to keep him. Trying to move him would be kind of silly unless he suddenly decided he hated Philly.

Let's not get into Briere's personal life here, it's just an all-around accepted fact that Briere isn't going anywhere soon.
9 out of 10 in does.

I was kidding. I agree with you, Briere doesn't want to go anywhere. Honestly, I don't want Briere to go anywhere.

Hockey, thank god, is so much more than stats. I've watched Carle every single game for the past 2½ years and he is nowhere NEAR Suter's qualities. Not in the D-zone. Not in the O-zone. Sure, if it makes you happier to actually believe what the hack Leed managed to put together is the absolute truth, good for you.
I've watched Carle from the get go. Based on that article he's not the Dman that Suter is but he's not far off, either. Statistically or whatever which way you want to look at it, Carle is a quality 2nd pairing Dman and an OK top pairing Dman.

As a Flyers fan, my biggest concern is Coburn getting a new contract for 4.5/year and letting Carle walk. Carle > Coburn any day of the week.

oh god no

The only reason Carle looked good as a top pairing defenseman was becuase he had a hall of famer saving his ass whenever he would screw up. When Carle is asked to anchor the defense pair (such as with Bourdon) just look at what he's done....constantly giving the puck away and blowing defensive coverages.

Carle is not better than Coburn. No chance. Coburn may has his brain farts as well, but he's 10x the defenseman Carle is.

Yep this pretty much sums it up here. I do think the Flyers might blow up the defense besides Kimmo in the off-season though. I personally wouldn't mind it happening. I think we need some more defensive minded d-men on this team. We don't really have that great shut down guy. Coburn tries, but still has some bad lapses and isn't physical enough.

About the article by THG, it's nonsense. Maybe we shouldn't put so much into advanced stats, but by actually watching the two players play on a nightly basis. Ryan Suter blows Matt Carle off the ice surface. It would be great if someone went to a scout or GM and proposed that idea. Im sure they would look at you like your crazy.

Just as you are skeptical of their intentions to re-sign, they are undoubtedly skeptical of Nashville's ability to spend like a cap team. I do not blame either of them one bit if this is how they see it. If the team is going to hover around the $49m mark, they each take Rinne-like deals, and the team has $21m tied up in three players, what kind of team can be iced unless the wallets open? It's a legitimate concern. Not to mention the last time the team "went for it" it nearly moved. I'm sure that whole ordeal made quite an impression on those two since they were so young when it happened.
And remember, just because you want to spend to be a cap team does not ensure you will win(Buffalo, Columbus). But I do think that if Nashville makes a smart hockey trade(trade for a player with term on the contract, it will show both Weber and Suter that they are adding salary now and for the next years as well.
