I don't buy that at all. After all, the easiest and most painless way to make the speculation go away is getting a contract done.
He has to have a reason for waiting. Making Zach twist in the wind and take endless distracting questions about his new contract is not something to do lightly. Either he's still evaluating Parise's value after his return from injury, or he's working on a trade to prove to Parise that he's serious about winning, or he's gauging Parise's value on the trade market. Could be any of the above, or any combination of the above. Hard to say.
Just thinking about makes me want to cry. If we do lose Zach, we better not pull the same move we did when Martin left, meaning we shouldn't throw $$$ at average/above average players on long term deals.
Keep the money/cap space and try to land a solid blueliner via a trade.
How about when Niedermayer left......Lou went out and signed washed up Dan McGillis and Malakhov, then had the balls to say "with these additions I feel we are a better "team" then were were last season" !!!!

He was probably blowing some smoke. That said I don't think Lou has ever made a move without feeling it made the team better, right or wrong. He cares to much.

Or he 'has' to wait because the money isn't there for an extension right now.
Agreed, but unless it's lack of cash to frontload a contract, why not talk now? Lou has done it before for Marty and Stevens and Parise is just as important to this franchise as them.
Either way you dice it it's extremely frustrating as a fan.
Whoa whoa whoa, I don't think you can put Parise in the same league as Stevens and Brodeur in terms of their importance to this team.
