torts was on the michael kay show today around 5pm. didn't hear it cause i was at work but i know he was on the schedule.

as far as the minorities not enjoying hockey statement, it has nothing to do with race (black people not wanting to watch white people is ridiculous) and everything to do with money and culture. most hispanic parents in new york city have never seen a hockey game and would have no interest in it. low income neighborhoods in new york are predominately black/hispanic and it's nearly impossible to be able to afford to play hockey as a young poor kid in new york city.

i'm a white kid who grew up in queens and long island, and while my white friends in queens mostly didn't play hockey, the kids on long island did. just had to do with their financial situation. my girlfriend is hispanic and from the south bronx, her parents didn't know what hockey was until a few years ago because they didn't have that in honduras and they only like baseball and soccer.

Joe and Evan just talked Rangers/Devils. Evan blasted Rick Nash for saying that the reason he requested a trade was so that Columbus could rebuild, lol. They actually are fairly knowledgeable when it comes to hockey- better than Mike Fatcesa.

Benigno's a Ranger fan and Evan I believe is an Isles fan. They both know and watch hockey, just don't talk about it often.

The Fan is talking a lot more hockey recently. except for the Mike,s On program from 1pm to 6:20 PM. Mike Keenan was on the other day right before the trade deadline with one of the weekend hosts. I am hearing more Rangers talk wherever I go it seems recently.

I grew up listening to Mike and the Maddog and still listen to Francesa to this day. The bottom line is he doesn't know ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING. In today's world of following sports, the only way to be on top of things is to be on the internet, on twitter, checking live box scores, etc. Francesa's knowledge base is by watching the games (NFL and MLB mostly) and talking to his contacts when he needs some inside info.

I wouldn't be offended as a hockey fan. Francesa probably couldn't name 10 college basketball players right now either. Lets say he sees a part of a Kentucky game...he'll come in the next day and say "you know who's gonna be a great pro. The big kid from Kentucky. Not a good pro...a great pro." Meanwhile I have some ****** accounting job while my unparalleled sports knowledge goes to waste. Ay dios mio.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I majored in Communications in school with the dream of becoming some sort of sports talk show host or something. I learned within 2 years that the business really is all about who you know. I thought talent and knowledge might help ... but it doesn't. There are TONS of people out there that know their stuff but never get a chance. Eventually i just went back to school and finished up my IT degree lol.

But yeah, Mike knows nothing. The worst is when he's on the air and he is trying to remember something and instead of using the computer that's right in front of him he will sit there and go "ummm, ahhh ... gosh ... why i can't i remember this guys name ... he played with so and so on the Reds in the 60's ... yada yada ..." for like 3 minutes before he eventually remembers, or takes a commercial break out of frustration lol!

And Carton is another prime example. If you listened to him during the height of Lin-sanity you would have thought this kid was the second coming of Christ! Forget the fact that his biggest accomplishment was getting the knicks back to .500! Stop the Presses! Meanwhile the Rangers are exceeding everyone's expectations and these guys can't be bothered to notice?

The Straw that broke the Camel's back for me was when the NFL strike was finally resolved on a Friday. Then on Monday a caller called into Carton and Boomer wanting to talk about the Rangers and as soon as the guy mentioned the word "hockey" Carton hung up on him stating that all anyone wanted to talk about that day was the NFL. Ya know, because the news didn't break on FRIDAY! ... and ya know, that guy, who would be part of the "everyone" category, called in wanting to talk about hockey ... but who has time for logic?

That day i signed up for Sirius, got the app on my phone and haven't looked back since. NHL Home Ice is the best thing ever for a hockey fan! I highly suggest it. And the internet subscription is only like 11 bucks. Thats less than 2 packs of smokes a month.

It was a pretty good interview. A little too short for my liking, but way better than the one after the WC.

Much better. Considering Kay doesn't know much, if anything, about hockey, he did a pretty good job. La Greca did as well but we all know he knows his stuff. Seems like Kay made an effort to know what to talk about and know a little about the game which I can't say the same about Francesa.

I chuckled at Kay wanting to call himself "The Average"

So apparently Callahan never called in, I guess he had a little too much fun at casino night last night.

UPDATE: They said the plan was for him to call on his way to the rink but he left his cell phone at home. Carton believes the real reason is Torts said to not call in. Supposedly Torts refuses to be on B&C

Good, Carton is the biggest moron in the history of radio.

For months, probably years he trashes hockey and dismisses it, he even used to call Brad Richards "Bob" Richards which I think was extremely disrespectful. Now the Rangers are in first and he's wearing jerseys and sweatshirts, etc.

Please.

He was supposed to quit if the Giants won the superbowl, he weaseled his way out of that appearently.

The radio in new york is being forced now to talk about it...On the FAN at late night as well Tony Paige who knows about anything but ancient boxing talked Rangers hockey. Boomer is a huge hockey advocate and Carton is a ****** when it comes to Rangers and hockey.

Joe Beningo/Evan appreciates the Rangers talk but never dive into it. Fatcessa eats Yankees and Giants for breakfest.

Lupica sucks, Kay is random...Forget Mike and Mike talking about hockey. Lundberg and Rucco are decent to listen to
