I'm a big fan of the The Michael Kay Show. I figured it would be all Yankees all the time but it's really not, and they talk a good deal of hockey. Don La Greca is his co-host and he definitely knows the sport.

I'm in Ocean County, and there are times when 1050 out of Toronto comes in better than ESPN 1050.

would 1130AM still be the 2nd station for knicks/rangers conflicts?

Bout freaking time. 1050 came in great when I was living in Bergen County, but now that I'm up in Morris it's garbage..not like it mattered as most times they were kicked on to 98.7 or whatever awful AM station the overflow was before we finally got Bloomberg 1130. Granted I'm home now for most games, but it's nice to know if I'm out I may actually FINALLY be able to hear them well..plus I do listen to ESPN radio on a somewhat regular basis.

That's awesome. The signal would be so bad most of the time in Suffolk, that I would just find an audio stream online and play it through my phone when in the car. ...first world problems lol

Can finally listen to the Rangers all the way to our house!!!
Wow, I thought I was the only Rangers fan in Monmouth county.

I can barely get 1050, this is excellent news.

False, AM is superior in almost every way to FM transmissions. Amplitude Modulation is a carrier wave whose information is embedded within the fluctuations of the wave's amplitude (it's power). Those constant fluctuations cause static, even if every other variable affecting the wave are good. AM transmissions are closer to the ground during the daytime as the wave is hampered by light waves from the sun. This isn't a huge deal for sports as most games are played at night. New York City is especially bad for AM because of all the buildings, FM radiation more easily passes through iron and concrete.

Physics lesson aside, we're all better off with ESPN radio being on FM. Personally it doesn't matter to me as I listen to it on my iPhone via cellular internet.

Don't know if everyone has noticed, but NBC has been advertising like crazy on the FAN and 1050. Nothing speaks more than Money. I think it relates to more coverage of Hockey. Ignorance of the Sport has lead so many Hosts to play the ratings game to avoid talking Hockey. (See Fatcessa, Carton). They are too embarrassed to talk Hockey because they fear coming off like idiots. Allot of them, like Beningo, have become lazy and don't want to put in the time to watch both the Knicks and the Rangers and use the Ratings card to down play Hockey. I've e-mailed them saying at least watch Rangers in 60 if you don't want to work. I've also e-mailed NBC and told them to keep up the pressure.

I live up in Dutchess County (Poughkeepsie). I get the NYC AM stations like 660, 880, 1050 perfectly fine, but we dont get the FM stations up here. Sounds like I'm screwed unless they strengthen their signal.

Monmouth in the hizzouse!!

Lol, I don't live in Monmouth, but very close off of US 1. I just can't get over the fact that this area came up here on the boards, lol. And, I agree, 1050 reception is so shi** in the car 'round here. Lookin' forward to the change.

Really peeved about them breaking up R and L tho--they were my faves. But I like Stephen A, so I guess that's good.

Not sure how any of this will affect hockey tho. ::Shrug:: Which sucks, since none of my RL friends could give a crap about the sport.

Why does Beningo keep calling Gaborik a "lunch pail" player?

As if he's Boyle or something.

I live in DC and can't stand the local announcers for the crapitals, very biased and non-stop talk about "Ovie". Even the NBC broadcasters annoyed me. I would love nothing more than to put on some headphones and listen to the game on a radio app from a local NY station and put the TV on mute.

What local radio station will carry the game live? Is there an app to give me the live MSG feed?

You can use the NHL app to get the Rangers radio broadcast free regardless of what channel it ends up on. If the Knicks are playing at the same time, it's on AM 1130, otherwise ESPN Radio 1050 AM (or 98.7 FM now I gather?)

Perhaps because Gabby in this playoff series has done more with his defense, forechecking, and grinding than his offensive ability. And he's completely right.

Nah. That's giving Beningo a bit too much credit.

He thinks because Gaborik isn't AO or Crosby, he's excused from this performance.

Which is wrong of course.
