Plenty of people have been calling a complaining about the lack of hockey talk especially with how well we're doing. Eventually he got pissed and said to this one guy that no one cares about hockey. Even though the guy who called him sounded like an idiot anyway, he got to Francesa.
Francesa is a ****ing moron, he is the one who doesn't care about hockey. Plenty of his listeners care about hockey, that I'm sure of.
I actually refuse to listen to WFAN since Francesa's interview with Hank -- he is such a clown and everybody in NY knows it. Not that it really matters, but WFAN lost me by having that fat **** attempt to talk hockey.

what we would need to do is have a pretty good amount of us call up during the fatcessa show and start talking hockey not for a day either. same thing for boomer and carton. if i want hockey and rangers coverage i know where to go to get it. i usually listen to fatcessa for football/baseball up until 5pm when NHL live starts. as previously stated, more coverage of the media means more/new bandwagon fans which means they want to do the cool thing and go to rangers games which eventually gives management even more of a reason to raise ticket prices.
i have learned to accept the fact and honestly at this point i like it, i feel like we are all in a fraternity or something. also call me crazy but when i talk about the rangers and the nhl, i wanna talk to people who actually watch and know what they are talking about. you guys gotta hear what some of the yankee/jets/mets fans say on air. we may not be the nycs most beloved team, but i can guarantee you we are the most knowledgeable fanbase out of any other.

good luck with that....everyone is calling up about the Yankees or Giants....you ever actually TRY to call into that show? He talks about Horse racing more than hockey. He actually talks to Charles Wang more than he talks about the Rangers...

Francessa actually said the other day after someone called about the Rangers, that since the team is doing well, he doesn't mind people calling up to talk Rangers.
Him bringing them up is a different story, though.
OK, I get it that the Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets & Knicks have more of a following than the Rangers. But notice how often Francessa interviews basketball coaches from Sienna, Marist and other rinky dink schools. They certainly don't have the following the Rangers do. He loves trying to impress them with knowledge and getting them to worship at his altar. He can't do this with hockey people so he ignores the sport. Of course once in awhile he will have Charles Wang on so he can tell him taxes in Nassau are too high.
When they're on 970 or the like that's not getting left over? The signal is terrible. It's been in the paper more than once over the past 20 months...
It sucks during the day and at night is even worse...and when it's on 970 and 770 its even worse than that, you can actually hear the a.m. signal on the radio some nights.

I can't be absolutely sure, but weren't they on 660 at one point? I'm sure Cablevision or money or something like that has to be the reason why. I always wondered why the Devils were on 660...

Knicks and Rangers were on 660 until their contract expired and they went to 1050. WFAN picked up the Devils and Nets to make up for it.

Trying to stay on topic, does anyone think that a decent playoff run or a Cup win will garner a bit more respect over the radio waves? Or will it be a 1 week celebration and then we'll be talking about the Yankees? It will be early to mid June around that time...

It depends on the Knicks. If the Knicks are out NY will jump on the bandwagon, and they (even him) would be forced to build their show around hockey.
The top one is the FAN and the bottom one is 1050...look at the difference in the signals at night...also click on the location of the transmitters...look how huge the one for the FAN is and look the ones for 1050...

The only way to change the amount of airtime the rangers get would be to show them there is a demand for it. I tries to organize a group of ranger fans to bum rush wfan with hockey questions but noone on the board really was up to it. These people are running a business if more people ask for a product they will deliver it. Problem is there are more callers asking about mets/Yankees in the offseason than there are callers asking about rangers mid season.

It also comes down to other sports fans too. Whenever I begin to talk about hockey at work I get the "Nobody cares about hockey Boomer" line from everyone...it gets flat out annoying. Michael refuses to talk about it not only because he is totally clueless about it but because his listeners treat hockey as a red-headed step child...and THAT is what has to change...though I'm a realist...so I know it won't
I rather them not talk about hockey because nobody knows what the hell to talk about anyway. I dont need hockey commercialized to some idiots whose bosses tell them the other team in the garden has won some games we we should give them 5 extra minutes. No thanks.

I think the interest will definitely improve. Think about it, the Rangers haven't been to the ECF since 97. Back in 07 when the Rangers were battling Buffalo and it became realistic that they could reach the ECF, there was a lot of interest around the city. If and when this team makes a deep run, you'll see a lot more hockey talk.
I'm a big francesa fan, and although he never talks hockey, he's honest about it and admits he doesn't know the sport that well, yet welcomes anyone to call in and talk hockey. But that rarely happens. If more people called to discuss the rangers, he would make it a bigger part of the show.
I am so sick and tired of this.
Mike Francessa is the media and it is HIS job to report.
A vet can't pick and choose who to treat; nor should a host from 1-6:30 in NY who DRIVES interest totally ignore hockey.
It is awful this occurs. They talk hockey in bandwagon Boston, they talk hockey in Philly, in even the most fickle johnny come lates DC.
It is horrible that an original six market like NY is so underrepresented.
I am taking it to the phones this week and calling Mike Francessa and asking him/demanding more hockey talk.
Who here is with me and will call this week?
Folks if they don't hear from this they will keep it at, if we complain civilly we can make a case.
Let's coordinate 1 day from Mike and the other for Mike Kay.
I suggest we pressure LaGreca on twitter; I have tweeted him before and called him a spineless sell out for being Mr. Hockey on NHLnet yet cowtailing it for Kay.

I ****** love it; this is a great post and you took the words right out of my mouth. I don't listen to any of these clowns on the wfan anymore because it's always about the same tired old garbage. None of the hosts can hold an intelligent conversation about a sport as sophisticated as hockey.
To be perfectly honest, I don't want to listen to uninformed, out of touch sports show hosts expressing their opinions on anything relating to the sport I love, hockey.
