So we add two players to our payroll without giving up any players (thus increasing our overall payroll) yet somehow, we have a limit?
This only a few days after Lou said that there'd be no effect on the hockey operations..
I think Neverson just reads these boards for his rumors because I could have sworn I saw some Johnny Odouya suggestions around here a few days ago. Does he not realize we aren't actually the Devils or does he choose to ignore that small fact?
Then I love how he talks about us trying to snap out of a two game losing streak (yea, thats all we've been doing the past week or so.. don't mind that winning streak) and then takes a shot at Lou for failing to make a big trade deadline acquisition (which apparently he does every year even though Kovalchuk has really been the only one as of late) because of last year? The year that we were sellers?
Of course he also mentions the Kovalchuk fiasco and our penalty of giving up a 1st round pick.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't mention the Rangers were 1st in the league or that they won the cup in 1994.
I will sum up Everson's extensive research process for that article.
-visit capgeek.com
-look at Devils cap numbers and realize they have around $3m in cap space
-make up a rumor that the Devils have an internal cap limit without providing any actual proof
-use a lot of conjunctives, if's and maybe's and unnamed source
And like always he will get many clicks from concerned Devils fans and Rags fans that want to laugh at their rival.
what the hell are up with the articles coming out that have more speculation and conjecture than substance?
Chere yesterday and Everson today? holy hell
the Devils have NOT received "financial assistance" because they haven't received a penny that is not theirs to begin with. they are just getting it sooner which means the **** will just hit the fan later (off season) so the players don't have to deal with an Ottawa-type situation while playing.
my day was great as i slept straight through and now it is ruined
lol a 'secret payroll' doesn't mean nearly as much with 20 games to go anyway. Even if for some reason we wanted to trade for a guy making $6 million we'd only have to pay $1.5 million of it, minus whatever we dealt back.
I do think if we have to give up our first-rounder in the next two years (I thought it was three, but Everson says two) it'll compromise what we do at the deadline since it's far more likely the pick we give up would be higher this year than next. And more than likely it would take a first-rounder to trade for the real upper-tier options this year.
I don't think we make any moves before the trade deadline. In fact, given whats out there, I don't think many teams look for rental UFAs.
We can use a top 4 defenseman but the cost would be way too high this season and I'd rather keep assets going forward than put all our chips in one pot that, frankly, has pretty low odds of us winning anyways.
Sources will tell Everson tomorrow that this secret payroll will also lead to the Devils not being able to sign Parise this off-season so they will begin to look into trading him before the deadline.
One day, Everson, one day. Brooks will retire and you'll be able to finally land your dream job. Until then, keep hating.
NHL helps many teams in terms of financing. I guess PHX can't sign any new players now? Such brown smeared crap it's not even funny. The whole point of the NHL stepping in is to ensure the team can still function and operate as if there were no issues to allow complete access to signing players, paying players and staff. It is not to clamp down restrictions.

Nash reportedly being discussed in trade talks. Can't believe it'll happen. Team needs changes, not Nash. Terrible 4 CBJ fans if he's moved.
I don't think its any big name like Nash - plus his contract is way too much and too long imo.
I'm thinking a package deal of young talent pieced together for a small name 2nd pairing Dman that's not clicking with his current team and a mid round pick. That seems like a typical Lou tactic at this point.
This has to be a trade showcase, I just don't see any other reason for it.

But let's say this.
ALL HYPOTHETICAL SPEAKING
Parise wants out ( didnt revel it to the media) would you do something like this
Parise and Merril and a conditional draft pick based on if Parise re signs with Columbus for Nash and like a 3rd rounder
now this is not happening as I've been up for too long and had way too many cups of coffee but would you guys take it. I think if that situation played out you would have to no?

Two things:
I think Nash is very overrated.
I'm not trading Merrill.
anybody else get that warm spewy feeling that Josefson may be expendable given his injury history but high draft value? I fear Henrique may have made him such...
I hope not - I think he's got so much high end remaining it's not funny.

true - but I also think he's similar to a Kovy was. So much skill but un-inspired with the situation that surrounds him some games. I think if he found himself on a contending team it would ignite some passion and consistency.
just my take seeing him probably more games than most here.
