When I saw this thread, the first thing I did was check @RealKyper_ to see if that's where the rumor came from....

He was just throwing it out their for discussion (said it today on HCaN, I heard it). It wasnt a rumour, just pure speculation based on needs for both teams, and that Kane's value is probably as low as it will ever be.

Why would Chicago trade a young star player for that stiff?

because that is what makes Miller good, years and years of consistently good-great hockey.

a younger goaltender could be acquired but IMO what makes goaltenders good is their ability to play consistently.

EDIT: Not saying I would take this deal if I was CHI but this is at least worth a discussion, not "no way in hell" type of banter

Good lord no. The difference between Kane and Ryan is nowhere near a goalie who's top 6 when he's on his game (and he currently is).

Can we please stop with the "Kane is a top 3 RW" rubbish? He's had ONE year where he was in the top 3 RW statistically and that was 2 seasons ago. He was well outside that group last year and he's even further this year.

Chicago would never do this trade. Not going to happen.

Kypreos may think it "Makes Sense", doesn't mean there's a chance in hell it'll happen.

I want no part of Miller on the Chicago even if it means Kane is gone. If that D ever got back to what they were just last yr with Miller behind them they would a tough team to beat.

Chicago would at least ask for Pominville back with Miller along with a pick or prospect for Kane and Crawford

I don't like the deal as is from Buffalo, much less adding. That's no slight on Kane, either.

Why not just push for Khabibulin for a decent prospect or a good pick without giving up Patrick Kane?

Absolutely not.

Miller is not worth Kane straight up. Even if Buffalo adds, replacing Kane with Miller wouldn't make this team better either now or in the future.

Also, I think Kane has a NMC until 2014. Miller has a limited NTC, thus further complicating the matter.

This. Kypreos was just throwing it out as an idea on the radio show as the type of move that would make sense for both teams, in know way did he say that the teams have been talking or that this is a rumor around the league.

Some people on these boards take everything some analysts speculate as a legit rumor

Is Kypreos high? If the Hawks get rid of Patrick Kane they might as well start a rebuild. He has incredible skill. Plus, he makes Luongo want to piss his pants.

I don't think it will happen, as it sounds more like a suggestion from Kyper of what makes sense to him, but I don't think it's as bad as too many make it out to be. Miller is a very good goaltender. People always say that goalies have limited value, but there's very limited evidence of that applying to established top-10 goalies that have many years left in their tank. Based on age, I do agree that Buffalo would have to add, but not as much as others would see necessary. That said, there probably are less impactful ways to address goaltending in Chicago, so until they want to do something with a deeper impact, they would seem more likely to take one of those other routes.

Corey Perry has had only one year where he was great statistically, and yet something tells me you'd put him in your top-3 list of right wingers, no questions asked.

And hey, so would I.

Kane is certainly in that group too. You could make an argument for some other players, but for several factors, Kane would come out on top in the end.
