Reliable Bottom 6 Player to NJ

Coach Pete DeBoer continues to rave about the importance of having a solid bottom 6 as it separates good teams from great teams. NJ has been calling up players from the AHL but few have stuck around.

We have 4 players who are pretty locked in, but could use a good 4th line winger, preferably one who can actually play hockey, cycle, not take stupid penalties, and contribute something other than change of pace hitting and fighting.

So is anyone available? Looking for someone of the Blair Betts, or John Madden in their primes mold.

Devils can take on salary, assuming it's not an albatross contract. Would probably be willing to deal picks or mid level prospects.

I don't see why we particularly need one. If/When all the forwards get healthy, the fourth line is something like Carter-Josefson-Bernier. I have no problem going into the playoffs with that.

No need for any trade in New Jersey.

Parise - Henrique - Kovalchuk
Sykora - Elias - Zubrus
Ponikarovsky - Zajac - Clarkson
Vielleux - Josefson - Bernier
Boulton, Carter, Janssen

Toronto has Colby Armstrong, I think he'd make a great addition to the Devils. What about Colby and a Second for your first round draft pick?

I'd rather run with 11 forwards and just double-shift Kovy at 4th line LW. Kovalchuk - Josefson - Bernier would put up some points.

This, it would allow us to roll with 7 D and keep Foster off the ice at even strength.

As of now, no need. If an injury happens to someone in the top 9, then yeah a trade would be wise. I like the idea of Moen, Pahlsson or Gaustad.

Until then I'd rather them go after a top 4 d-man.

It's a big if. I don't think another depth player hurts, especially since I can't remember the last time we had a fully healthy roster. Hell, Josefson, Zajac, and Henrique alone have yet to play a full game together.

Preds have about 4 lines worth of those guys, and we have been rotating about 3 of them. You could have Matt Halischuk back or better yet take Jarred Smithson of our hands.

I would love Ott here, but I don't think he'd come very cheap nor do I think Elias would enjoy his presence.

Our board would jump at the chance to grab Halischuk, I'm sure.

I think he would certainly be a guy who would be on the higher end of the bottom 6. If given the opportunity. If you look at his TOI compared to his production, its actually really impressive. I can't help but think something isn't right with his relationship with Trotzy. He has been a healthy scratch numerous times in the last 2 months. He must have made fun of Trotzy's eyebrows or something?

I think once Carter and Zajac are back, we won't need Boulton or Janssen. We just need another D-man, but we have plenty in Albany

Moen?

From this thread seems like they don't need one anyway.

Exactly. I think the required assets could be put to better use bringing in an impact defenceman. We have enough forward depth.

About half our board still laments the Arnott/Halischuk trade. I don't regret it, but I definitely wouldn't mind bringing Halischuk back.

Flames could probably move Kostopoulos or Jackman if they fall out of the playoff race. I think either could be had for a 4th
