Welcome everybody! To DuckJet's 2012 mock draft game. I seriously doubt I'll being doing this on a yearly basis, but we'll see how things go in this year's mock draft (the first one...I'm looking at you Velocirapor, Mr. I'm going to do my draft game to show DuckJet up).
We will begin drafting tomorrow, January 14th 2012 at 1 PM eastern time. Picks can be made at any point prior to that, but the manager following you is not obligated to make their pick until after 1 PM. I sent this out to all the users, but please have a list in order of preference for auto-picking in case you miss your pick.
RULES
1.) Trades are acceptable, but nothing stupid like Ovechkin for the 14th overall pick.
2.) As I stated before. Drafting is open now if managers wish to make their picks, but picks will be made in order, and we won't force managers to make their selections until the official start of the draft.
3.) We will be drafting on a two hour clock. I'd like this to be a quick process. That's why I emphasize having a list prepared in the event that you are on the clock and you fail to make a selection.
4.) You MUST (I cannot stress this enough) you MUST notify the next manager that he is on the clock. I encourage any user checking up on the draft to assist in this process in case some users don't follow this rule. It's only fair that each manager knows when it is his turn to pick.
5.) If a manager picks 30 minutes or under after the preceding manager makes his selection, the next manager will be awarded an extra hour to make his/her pick if it appears necessary.
6.) Have fun with this. Try to be creative when making your pick. Include a picture of the prospect, prepare a speech for your selection, analysis if you'd like. Nothing is more boring than the "LA Kings select blah. Next user is on the clock."
7.) Oh, and the draft will be 3 rounds long. 4 if we have enough users dedicated to the process.
(As the Columbus delegation gets on stage, the arena goes dark and a couple of spotlights dance around the crowd as Morgan Freeman takes the mic)
Here it comes, from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, television's most exciting two days of 18 year old hockey players, the 2012 NHL Entry Draft!
Now, with the first overall pick, here are the Columbus Blue Jackets.
pensguy11: Uh, Morgan, I thought we paid you to also announce the pick.
Morgan: Oh, right. The Blue Jacket organization would like to thank the city of Pittsburgh, the Penguin organization, and their fans, for the kind hospitality.
For the five fans back in Columbus at the only draft party NOT to mock the organization, we award you free season tickets for you and four friends this season. We need the support, we really do. That said, Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting, COME ON DOWN! You’re the first overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft!
(Nail comes down the stairs wearing a Price is Right style nametag with his name on it and shakes hands with the Columbus delegation, including Morgan Freeman then puts on his Blue Jackets jersey. During the interview with Bob McKenzie, Bob jokingly asks Nail how much, without going over, what the actual retail price of the jersey was.)
Morgan: Edmonton is on the clock…if the Price is Right!
(Gary Bettman tries to restore order and a sense of decorum, but then realizes this is the best publicity the league's gotten in awhile from someone not named Crosby or Ovechkin)
Truly...truly a shocker given Columbus' experiences with Russians in drafts.
Thought I heard Yakupov say "I never play for this team" as he passed by Anaheim's table Nail Yakupov is an elite level talent who gives Columbus the superstar they desperately need. They'll need to build around him in the future, but if they do it right, Columbus has a bright future ahead of it.
Edmonton adding to their center depth by drafting Mikhail Grigorenko. And so much creativity in their selection. My head hurts. Interesting that they didn't draft defense, but that top 6 of Hall, RNH, Eberle MPS, Grigorenko, and Hemsky will dominate teams in the next few coming years.
Carolina is on the clock and has between now and 3pm ET tomorrow to make their selection.
In their haste, Columbus and Edmonton forgot to provide their young stars with their first jerseys.
(To try to keep up with the previous spectacle of the evening, Bettman waddles out in a penguin suit)
We have a trade! We have a trade!
receives 2012 1st (29th overall)
receives 2012 2nd (31st overall)
RW Cam Atkinson
James Duthie: "Bob McKenzie is down on the floor talking to the GM of the Jackets. Bob?"
Bob McKenzie: "Why make the move only going up two spots?"
pensguy11: "Well sometimes Bob, sometimes you make moves that lead to bigger things. If we want, we can use the pick as leverage to move up or get another acquisition. What these would be for I can't say."
Bob: "Thanks pens. Let's send it back up to James."

Bob Murray waddles up to the stage with Bruce Boudreau, Scott Niedermayer, and Henry Samueli and prepares to make his pick.
I would like to thank the city of Pittsburgh for their hospitality. Congratulations on your second time hosting this great event, god knows your fanbase needed it, what with the mental anguish over Crosby's injury and what not. Anaheim doesn't need one. BETTMAN YOU FAT ***! WE WANT A DRAFT.
Boudreau pulls a red faced Bob Murray from the stand as Scott Niedermayer walks up and finishes what Murray had written on his flash cards.
"we also want to thank Draft Master DuckJet, without whom none of this could have been possible"
*roaring applause from the crowd, women are screaming and crying, men are throwing roses and hats to the draft floor, a slight tear begins to form in DuckJet's eye*
And with the 4th overall pick in this year's draft, the Anaheim Ducks are proud to select from the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League:
Alex Galchenyuk
We go now to Bob McKenzie who is with Bob Murray
McKenzie: Before we get to the pick, what was that back there?
BM; Don't worry about it.
McK: But...
BM: I SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!
McK: Okay, well tell us about this pick. Why did you end up picking Alex?
BM: Well Bob, this draft is obviously very stacked defensively and it hurt to pass up on alot of the great blueline talent still available, but we as an organization feel that Galchenyuk has elite level talent, and will be a star playing with guys like Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Etem, and Palmieri, and we believe he will instantly rectify our second line center issues.
MCK: Alex, how are you feeling right now.
Galchenyuk: Oh I'm just ecstatic right now. I can't wait to start my career in Anaheim and bring the Ducks many cups.
Murray: Good to hear.
McKenzie: Anaheim takes Galchenyuk fourth overall. Buffalo is next on the board. They have from now until 3PM ET to make their selection.
