Lost in all of this is the fact that Yost has ZERO inside info on the Karlsson contract.
If I had to bet, the Murray's prbbaly want Karlsson locked up for 5 years so he can just focus on hockey long term without taking away any of his negotiation rights long term so he can cash in when he's 26.
5 years / $32 million - $6.25 million a season.
5 years is probably the worst term we could sign him for.
BTW...is anyone old enough(but not too old ) to remember the 92-93 sens? I only started following them in depth in 1997ish(8 yrs old) Was norm controlling whatever play the sens had from the backend? did he look good? He didn't do that well anywhere else. Was he just a "filip kuba" type player that benefitted from playing all the pp or was he magical like karlsson? Does karlsson look alot better? etc? etc?
More like an MA Bergeron. IIRC we claimed him off of waivers and he didn't really peak for very long. He was a PP specialist who played for a team with little talent during a hyper-scoring season.

I'm actually amazed that his record survives to this day. We've had some pretty good defencemen go through here over the years but I guess they were more about the defence than offence.
Scoring was too high that year to break many records created around then (or the 1980's for that matter).
63 points was good for 12th in scoring for D-men that year.
Redden was 13th when he posted 50 points in 65 games in '05-06. So that was a more impressive season and he could have legitimately contended for the record had he played every game.
You know what, its not only Karlsson that's improved in his own zone. Lee looks better, as do Kuba and Gonchar (compared to last year).
Maybe its just a case of Kuba and Gonchar having poor seasons a year ago and this year is a natural bounce back, and maybe Karlsson and Lee are just developing as young players do - but I have to think a tonne of credit should be given to the coaching staff for getting these guys on track.
"Captain Daniel Alfredsson, a fellow Swede and Karlsson's biggest mentor since he first arrived in Ottawa four seasons ago, believes he's a perfect fit for the style the Senators are playing under MacLean. And the team as a whole benefits from that match."
Four seasons ago?
1 season ago=2010-2011
2 seasons ago=2009-2010
3 seasons ago=2008-2009
4 seasons ago=2007-2008
Oh really? He was here before he was drafted? ok. 2 seasons ago is when he moved into alfies house. Not 4. Unless he was talking about when he was drafted...which is 3. not 4.
I don't know why i had to comment on that, but it stuck out to me.
