Relative to league scoring he's producing more impressively than anyone but Orr...who set the standard for scoring in the NHL when he was 21.
Well knock me down and call me Susan. You're right. I could have sworn Orr entered the league when he was 18.

Yea Duthie and MacLean had me believing all this time...

Orr to EK over the first three years provide similar stats. Obviously with Orr coming out a little bit ahead.

Year 4, EK wins the Art Ross. Book it.

My gawd was Orr ever amazing. The guy won the Art Ross at the age of 21-22, beating Phil Esposito by 21 points.

****ing ridiculous that is.

102 the year after.

I think the stat is most points by a 21 year old.

5 years / $32 million - $6.25 million a season.
5 years is probably the worst term we could sign him for.

Let him hit UFA at 27? No thanks.

Was he just a "filip kuba" type player that benefitted from playing all the pp or was he magical like karlsson? Does karlsson look alot better? etc? etc?
More like an MA Bergeron. IIRC we claimed him off of waivers and he didn't really peak for very long. He was a PP specialist who played for a team with little talent during a hyper-scoring season.

I'm actually amazed that his record survives to this day. We've had some pretty good defencemen go through here over the years but I guess they were more about the defence than offence.
Scoring was too high that year to break many records created around then (or the 1980's for that matter).

63 points was good for 12th in scoring for D-men that year.

Redden was 13th when he posted 50 points in 65 games in '05-06. So that was a more impressive season and he could have legitimately contended for the record had he played every game.

04: Redden 13th, Chara 18
03: Redden 12, Chara 22
01: Redden 15
97: Duchesne 11

He hit 71 in 68 games at 20, 56 in 72 at 21.

Larry Murphy posted 76 the season he turned 20 on March 8th.

Scott Stevens posted 65 the season he turned 21 on April 1st.

Loosely related...

Bryan Murray said today that he's only had one talk with Karlsson's agent. What's the deal with that?

Its Deadline time/playoff crunch time.

The thing I am wondering is what do you guys think the chances are of a team throwing a offer sheet at him?

Zero. Ottawa will re-sign him longggggg before he even hits that stage. Karlsson loves and wants to stay in Ottawa. He is also a great guy, he won't delay it.

You know what, its not only Karlsson that's improved in his own zone. Lee looks better, as do Kuba and Gonchar (compared to last year).

Maybe its just a case of Kuba and Gonchar having poor seasons a year ago and this year is a natural bounce back, and maybe Karlsson and Lee are just developing as young players do - but I have to think a tonne of credit should be given to the coaching staff for getting these guys on track.

"Captain Daniel Alfredsson, a fellow Swede and Karlsson's biggest mentor since he first arrived in Ottawa four seasons ago, believes he's a perfect fit for the style the Senators are playing under MacLean. And the team as a whole benefits from that match."

Four seasons ago?
1 season ago=2010-2011
2 seasons ago=2009-2010
3 seasons ago=2008-2009
4 seasons ago=2007-2008

Oh really? He was here before he was drafted? ok. 2 seasons ago is when he moved into alfies house. Not 4. Unless he was talking about when he was drafted...which is 3. not 4.

I don't know why i had to comment on that, but it stuck out to me.
