Sabres coach Lindy Ruff will go back behind his team's bench tonight with broken ribs suffered in recent practice.

Tom Gulitti

Veilleux on fourth line with Josefson and Janssen. Boulton and Palmieri appear to be extra forwards.

I'll change the lines in the OP.

I have a feeling this game is either going to be another fluky low-scoring stinker OR a straight up slaughterfest. There is no middle ground.

Borrowing this from someone:

The New Jersey Devils are on tonight, and it's Valentine's Day!
So, let's enjoy some holding, roughing, and hitting from behind.

He's fulfilling his role just fine. I can't blame him for Lou signing him. He gives his honest effort and that's all I ask.

what has been disappointing about him... He was brought in to add some toughness which he provides he doesnt take that many stupid pims and he will fight anyone. He knows when to fight and when not to. He has been asked to has on occasion played third line late in a game because the coach knows he thinks defense first.

I don't like the fact we signed him for two years. Or the fact we signed him AND Janssen. Should have been one or the other.

They're redundant, and the pure heavyweight is being transitioned out of the league. But Boulton can do more than just fight. I don't have a problem with him coming back next year.

Cam is mostly here to be a good locker room guy, it seems. That's a slightly different role.

In any case, it won't matter, because they won't see the ice at the same time in the playoffs.

He barely plays lol

And he hasn't played third line in months so don't fool yourself. Once we saw him there, Lou went out and traded for a player and signed an ahler to displace him. So he is back to last line duty.

On the last line, jansen has consistently played over him. The same Janssen we all rag on and want scratched.

The only reason jansen has played over him was because boulton broke his hand. And also i have stated many times on the boards the coach has to play the 4th line more to rest the other lines. Look back at the games that the 4th has logged more then 5 mins and we have had better third periods. When the coach starts thinking to stop pressuring the other team and just play 3 lines we loose. Its not Boulton or the 4th lines fault the dont get the ice time. Boulton has been in the league 10 years so he must be doing something right. He has proven over those 10 years he can play a regular shift and log 10 mins a game.

Fun stat regarding Boulton. He is the only player who has played 20+ games and never been on the ice when his team has scored. There is 614 players right now who have 20+ games played.

I know he isn't supposed to be bringing offense but there are plenty of 4th line players around the league that bring a physical game and can chip in occasionally.

Palmieri and Boulton should never sit over Jannsen. I love Jannsen but he will see 3 mins tonight tops. The other two can play a regular shift.

Yes lots of player in his roll chip in but also look at the time they play per game as well. If this team is going to be good and stay fresh down the stretch we need to be able to roll 4 lines. It doesnt seem to matter who plays 4th line the coach just doesnt like to roll 4 lines.

So Palmeri was called up why then?

And not that anyone cares, but what's the timetable on Carter? Or is he going to just randomly and quietly disappear like Tao last year?

Are you sure about that? I thought they were splitting healthy scratch duty pretty evenly, or possibly even Boulton was the one playing more.

I don't understand the purpose of calling Palmieri up just to have him sit.

Lol Pik's first goal was such a flukey bounce of the puck and right by Carey Price. Or was that Rod's?

Get in some practice with the big club?

I still think he's highly regarded. Power forwards do take a long time to develop, probably hasn't got his 'man strength' yet.

would have much rathered them leave one of the guys in the ahl and bring up a defense man and sit foster. Makes no sense. The only reason i can think that they brought them up was to maybe show case one or two of them for a trade at the deadline. Or its to shake things up to get the players going again last game was flat as hell.

They said he wouldn't be practicing until he has the strength back in his hand. No idea how long that could be.

I disagree if there were capable players on the 4th line we'd probably use them. If DeBoer was happy with Boulton's play he wouldn't be sitting tonight.

Do you watch the games what has he done that is so bad ? He is probably one of the most consistant back checkers on the devils. He never gets caught out on a long shift if anything he busts his ass and gets off a little early. Next time he is in line up watch his back checking and he changes when the time is right not making stupid line changes. He can pass as you saw the break away pass to jof the other night.
