2012 & 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series & Camping World Truck Series Thread
It is mid-February, which means the new racing season is just around the corner.
The first significant event is the Bud Shootout, which is 8 p.m. EST Saturday on FOX. It is part of the buildup to the Daytona 500 the following weekend.
Danica's in one of the better Nationwide series rides. Honestly, there's no reason she shouldn't finish in the Top 5 in points in that series.
Sprint Cup however.... that's a whole different animal. I've been watching her for years in Atlantics and Indycars. She's not a particularly quick driver, but she also rarely makes mistakes. She excels at fuel mileage races, but seems to lack the ability to drive through the field at times. She's also not the friendliest person to be around. NASCAR will work out well for her though because she doesn't have to be around fans as much.
In about 24 hours, Danica Patrick went from her biggest crash to her biggest moment in a stock car.
The former IndyCar star won the pole Friday for the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona, becoming the first woman to secure the top qualifying spot in NASCAR's second-tier series since Shawna Robinson at Atlanta on March 12, 1994.
Isn't this why the Daytona 500 was always on Presidents Day weekend? Just in case it rained, it could be pushed to Monday but people would still be able to see it. Now the ratings are going to suck because it's a work day. I know Nascar can't do much if it's raining, so instead I will say thank you NFL for causing havoc with all the other sports with your arrogance and popularity.
