I have a question about the way the points system works in NASCAR.

I know that once the 12 drivers have been selected, the 12 drivers get set to 2,000 points and 3 bonus points are given for each race a driver in the chase won in the regular season. Now this is the question, would it, or has it ever happened that a non-chase driver finished higher in the standings than a chase driver? For instance a non-chase driver won a few races and gained a lot of points -- is it even possible for that driver to catapult past anybody? Sorry for the noob question, but it's just curiosity I guess.

nope, no driver past 12th, can be passed by a non-qualified driver, best the non-qualifiers can do is maintain 13th.... the regular season-long points continue just as they have.... Gordon cannot drop past 12th

btw, 2-Keselowski vaults from 4th by 1.6 sec. over JJ @ Chicagoland

No; even if a non-chase driver ran the table and won all 10 races and led the most laps in all the races, that's 480 points (and any driver & team capable of doing that would be in the chase already). The chase drivers all start over 1000 points ahead of the rest of the field.

I think it would be hilarious if Dodge won the championship with Brad K. then left the series.

Yup, Steve Kinser's sprint car is sponsored by BPS.

It sucks to see any co-primary sponsor leave the sport.

I still wish P&G didn't back Old Spice out, I loved the Swagger car.

for some reason there's been rumors of Allmendinger in the Indycar paddock, in part started by Roger himself, but I don't see it unless he ends up in a Penske or Ganassi ride, and I don't see Ganassi hiring him; Penske is likely getting rid of Briscoe and Graham Rahal is leaving Ganassi

Roger also stated which AJ Confirmed that there is no issue of Allmendinger driving in either series but AJ Also stated that no matter where, the damage inflicted since Kentucky AND the subsequent removal @ Daytona..... why they released him is SOP bc no one knew it would've been less than 3 months to complete the R TO R program;

IT Has nothing to do w/ Graham Rahal whatsoever....

I don't know if there's a future for Allmendinger at Penske. Supposedly Penske is really high on Logano. Hornish has a job with Penske for life as Roger's personal thank you, and for right now that's being Allmendinger's fill-in and probably Nationwide next year. So no room at the Penske Inn unless it's in an Indycar ride, but I don't see Allmendinger going to Indycar.

I was at Loudon for the race - simply dreadful. Hamlin kicked everyone's tails, not so much as a single car spinning out. No drama, little excitement.

If it weren't for Loudon's location, being the only track in New England, no way would it get two races.

I wish they would never go there. I'd rather go to Texas 5 times a yr than watch 300 laps at New Hampshire.

Big announcement coming from SHR Tuesday.

I'm guessing Tony locked up some sponsors for next year.
