Verreault-Paul mentioned in one of the game recaps that he was leaving but he has one year left.
Vossen is their only 5th year I believe.
Morin, Picard-Hooper, Dorion, Daneau, Langelier-Parent, and Wright are also 4th year.
VP is a fourth year... as of course is practically every key McGill cog.
Its going to be a real tough repeat for McGill next year. 5 of the top 6 forwards all graduating, as well as Dorion.
The good news is that outside of Dorion, the main D will be back. McKiernan, Genest (a great shutdown D), Laporte, Bourgeios and Dupont. Also, you could make an argument that the backup goalie Segal is better than Morin. He was a rookie this year, who could have been an OA in the WHL, and also forced the previous year backup Tardiff to the stands.
I can confirm it's Wright's last year -- his parents were sitting in front of us for the gold medal game and we chatted with them quite a bit, and they told us he wasn't going to be doing a 5th.
Sorry I missed the media soiree Sunday and didn't get opportunity to see as much of the tourney...duty calls. When one or two of the gleanerguys is in the trenches, the other is back at the office waiting for the stuff. Not looking to pump tires or have them pumped but I thought our guys on site, writing and photos, did an awesome job. Great to hang out in the hostility suite for a bit, to see old friends and coworkers again, and see the next generation of media do their thing so well. Thinking I may take in one of these things on a purely recreational basis soon...never been to Saskatoon. For organizers, another great job. We've come to expect nothing less. Congrats to McGill...great way for Vossen to finish his career...a fairy tale ending to a great game. But guys at the office waiting for the game to end hate OT.
And now to the laundry and dishes...
I meant to mention earlier that there were about 20 scouts at this year's University Cup. I don't know how many were true NHL scouts versus how many were part-timers with minimal impact on player futures just looking for access.
I do know that many of them were a pain in the media room, scooping up all the media kits, stats sheets and game sheets hot off the printer, and just standing in the way telling war stories (and eating our free food, but there was lots so that wasn't a problem). Thankfully the CIS's Michel Belanger finally put the run to them after they stepped on his toes one too many times.
Going forward, if the University Cup is going to continue to draw this many scouts (there were a lot last year too) maybe they should accommodate them somehow -- apparently that happens in basketball and football.

- The coverage of the tournament was undoubtedly the most comprehensive the event has ever seen. It was almost impossible NOT to know what was going on with all of the tweets, live blogs, and stories being produced. Great job by everyone at the Brunswickan, Gleaner, the guys from the CIS Blog, CHSR, SSN, all of the out of town journalists, etc. I remember back in 1998 it was hard to even find the final score of the championship game, let alone stats and video and everything else that we have access to now....pretty crazy to think how far things have come.
- Secondly, the program that was produced for the event was fantastic. When I went to pick one up I was already reaching for my wallet and asking the volunteers how much it was, expecting to pay 4 or 5 dollars for it. Much to my surprise it was free. You could definitely tell the amount of work that went into it. Great job by everyone who put it together.
My first in awhile, come to think of it, "the last" was "the first" at UNB back in 2003, and now I am sorry I missed all those others in Moncton and Freddy. What a time, all I can say is if you have the chance folks, go for it and make a point of finding the same you see on here, it really was a super time. You UNB guys and gals who host and do all the other stuff besides, first class all the way, a great city, a great university, a great venue, it just goes on and on. AUS Fan too, whose reputation for doing things for others needs no verification here. (BTW you should have stopped in Oromocto for gas, $1.29, or was that DA who said that?) If we (on PEI) ever host....sigh.....dream... I'll do my best, we should wait until May 1st, then I could ply you with hot lobster and ice cold beer, even if we could never live up to hosting like UNB does. I'd like to mention the Western media guys, nice to meet you and get your perspective, it is a hard go in your market, but you do well, Western teams are always in there in every sport. Your group of fans too, who made the trek, sitting at the end, down at ice level, they made a lot of noise, and hung in there to the end, a tip of the hat to them. McGill, yeah I am one of those who just dig the appropriateness of the win. And I think your Captain is awesome too. Most of all the CIS hockey brand, and the ability of anyone to hoist that cup, no guarantees of who is going to win. You always rise above everything else.

Then eventually Steve Knowles will update the CIS University Cup record standings, and since UNB, UdeM and Sask are all 1-1 I believe the tie breaker would be goal differential, making it UNB 3rd, UdeM 4th, Sask 5th and UQTR 6th.

Thanks Husky.
You really made me think of how much of a ****** I'am. HA HA My dislike of UNB really limits my activity, particularly at nationals the last two years. I had such a great time back in 03 and more fun in 04 but the years since then have not been kind to STU fans and I grew bitter. UNB did and does do a fantastic job with hosting. I quite honestly hate the venue (apologies) but it is probably the best thing for the brand, although I really thought the Moncton Coliseum was fantastic.
Looking forward to see if Saskatchewan can learn from Thunder Bay and UNB to come up with an outstanding show next year.
Watched the Tampa-Philly game last night on NBC. Pierre McGuire was talking to Guy Boucher and mentioned the McGill victory. Boucher played at McGill and was an assistant to Martin Raymond. Their roles are now reversed in Tampa.
Good on Pierre to give a shoutout to the Redmen on US TV.
Also, there was some discussion last week about the absence of Dal for the meetings. The word I'm hearing is that Donnelly is the coach and was recruiting. No one told him to go to the meetings, so he didn't. Pete is still having legal discussions with Dal.
Interesting to see how many of those fourth year players will return next year, maybe some will come back for a final year (5)? Dorion will most likely get pro offers?
Western, Turks and Baker have another year left I think?
Sask, Ross is done,who else?
UNB, 5 or 6, including Bailey, Gallant, Harty. Big holes to fill!

I understand.., you were one of the ones I was hoping to run into over there, but your reasons for not attending are your own, no need to explain to anyone. It'll come my good man, I see the Saint Mary's women's coach recruited 8 players already, watch Troy go this year. On PEI we have a lot of farmers, one thing they always have in the face of the hardest times, "Hope"... keeps them going.

For Western, their "big 3" have been Turkiewicz, Baker and Aaron Snow. Snow had a season ending knee injury last year and I believe only played 3 or so games this year. He was sorely missed on that top line being replaced by Desando instead. Those 3 have all now played 4 years. I will be interested to see if any, or all are back next year. Western's ability to compete in the conference may not be severely impacted, but their ability to compete nationally be changed dramatically by that, as well as their blueline, as Nemeth is gone, and Killing has also played 4 years.

Very wise Husky! I actually have a cousin who married a farmer just outside of Kennsington. Hope is what we got!! I wish I would have known you were there, I would have looked you up for sure on Saturday morning when I was there.

Man, screw those *******s, not in the media, who take advantage of the media room food and information. Seriously folks...!
I know there's been a LOT of scouts at the Wildcats games yesterday and the night before here at the Coliseum, I'm betting quite a few of them were at the Nationals too and decided to make the trek to Moncton to catch the Wildcats and Moose.
PS: That chili on Sunday was pretty good, though it could have been a little spicier. And I didn't manage to get my hands on Media Kits from McGill or UQTR, can anyone hook me up? Haha... Sorry guys
The Sodexo chili is normally pretty good, but I keep a bottle of hot sauce in my office to spice it up for when they're serving it in our building.
The teams are required to bring 30 or 40 media guides/press kits which is more than enough for the accredited media, yet often they run out. Funny that.
All are posted as PDFs on the University Cup site. McGill's is heavily number focused and just black and white. I have the colour UQTR kit - I'll save it for you if you want it.

The scouts were also at the Sea Dogs game Friday as was Sportsnet noted in their broadcast. The loading up the truck and travelling the 90 minutes to Freddy for Sat.
That's the beauty of Southern NB.
90 minites between SJ, Freddy and Monkeystan.

Definitely this. Absolutely fantastic program. I, too, had cash in hand.

Haha, thanks! But I should be good... I have to put pressure on our guys here to put something together... I wasn't impressed with the little info we provided the media. I've been meaning to put together a small media kit for our home games for a while now, but I keep slacking off with it. Hopefully I can get around to it next year and show the guys in the AD's office that you can put something together with minimal effort/resources and throwing a little bit of resources at it would make something good that won't make us look like a bunch of cheap ******** at Nationals.

Also wanted to drop a line about the programs this week, wow, what an awesome job they did on that. I've been carrying it in my back pack since then. The back pack that we got as participants incidentally... For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's this one:
With a nice CIS Cavendish University Cup 50th Anniversary logo on it. Another well done job by the hosting committee. I still have my bag from Saskatoon in '99 (though it now has a broken strap, keeping it as a souvenir), didn't get one in '05 since we only received 20 per team(fun...), we didn't give out any in '07 or '08 (swag bags were only those reusable shopping bags...). This one is really nice and it's replaced my previous messenger style bag as my daily carry for now. Laptop compartment, tablet compartment and plenty of other storage. Saw somewhere it retails for 65$

If Moncton's media guide was the same one that was posted on the CIS site, to say it was disappointing would be a massive understatement. 2 pages?? Seriously? No history, no write-ups, no schedule or season info...just a roster and season stats.

It was. Not my doing you can be sure of it. Talked to some of the powers-that-be this morning and he says they didn't bother doing more because of budget and he felt that people don't take them/use them as much as that.
Anyway there was a letter to the editor in the gleaner yesterday complaining about there being general admission for the two weekday afternoon games. Basically a season ticket holder whinning about school kids occupying "her seats" for these two games.
