when elias was parise's age, he had already won 2 cups if im not mistaken, and played a big-assed part in winning them. parise, as much as i love him, hasn't proven himself fully yet.
I'm willing to bet that if we had the defense now that we had then, Parise would have himself a Cup or two himself.
The Cup argument is ridiculous. I bet Ray Bourque was never a proven superstar until his twilight years with the Avalanche.

That and Elias was coming off a dominant half season and playoffs, while Zach has had a good, not great season so far. The only reason Zach is getting more is he's younger and the cap is much higher now.
Just because Burke is overpaying Grabovsky doesn't mean anything regardling Lou and Parise.
After Parise proved his knee isn't going to bother him much going forward, I think you pay him whatever he asks. He's a home grown elite player. They don't come around very often.
If you think agents don't play the comparision game between his own client and the rest of the league, let me be the one the announce you the news... they do and that's probably why someone like Grabovsky got the deal he got. That and the fact that Burke probably saw that the market was bone dry and there wasn't a player out there that would be better then him, so he spent a little more to keep him around.
All of our key UFA's that bolted were all home grown talents. That didn't stop Lou to waive them goodbye when the asking price wasn't of his standards. If Parise is asking for 7M$, I hope tells him "tough luck kid, hope your happy playing for team x, y, z" and concentrate on adding that ****ing blueliner we so desperatly need with the available cap space, let it be via trade or free agency (Suter).

I understand that's how sports works. Difference is that's not how Lou works.
Look at the contracts that RNH and Landeskog got. Then look at the contract Larsson got. One of these things is not like the other. That's just one example.
Granted, Larsson didn't have much traction for negotiation but the point remains the same. Lou does business his own way. Never before has he sounded so definitive in what he plans on doing with a player. If Parise leaves, it's because he simply does not want to be here. I trust Lou fully with this one.

Like you said, Lou works by his own clock, not the other way around and that, to me, doesn't mean that he's willing to give him the keys to the safe and tell him to take whatever he wants.
I'll probably get burned for this but what exactly has Parise done outside of the regular season to warrant such a huge deal? Someone will probably say "Well, what has IK done to warrant 100M$?" and I'll answer that question by saying that he had a handfull of games in the post season (including 4 of them with a garbage team) while Parise has made the playoffs with a conference winning team almost every single year he played for us and as our "leader" didn't manage to bring this team past the 1st round every single time.
I just think that handing over 13.5M$ on long term contracts to two left wingers would be a massive mistake down the road.
Mikhail Grabovski is Kovalchuk's age and just set a career high in goals and points with 29 and 58, respectively. If I'm Lou, I look at that, look at the Leafs, and say "you can get your money, but teams like the Leafs that blow extra money on players that don't deserve it end up, well, as the Leafs."
I don't think the cap is going to go up much more because Bettman LOVES parity, and a higher cap is going to make it even more difficult for the smaller-market teams to compete. That being said, this Grabovski contract could be a pretty stellar example of what NOT to do in the coming years.
I would be more than disappointed if lou signs parise to a contract paying him anything 7 million per season or more. I will be le sigh if he is signed to anything over 6.5
I'd prepare to be disappointed. If Lou makes an offer, I expect it to be near or above $7 M.
@AGrossRecord Sean Avery told by #NYR today he would not be on #CTWhale playoff roster and no longer needs to report for practices or games.
Damn, looks like I can't even heckle him at Whale games anymore. I guess Rangers management recognised that he is a cancer in the organisation at any level.
it bothers me that people have to come out and say that there is no fine/suspension
that hit was totally clean. Voracek put his own head down.
Same here. So many dumbasses. And you don`t even know what it`s like to deal with Czech Philly fans. I`ve been on fire all day.

Nope. He`s the best so that`s why like 80% of the league wants a mask from him. Todd Miska is the most famous US airbrush artist (Kipper`s mask, Esche back then). Price, LaBarbera, Nitty, Elliott, Johnson, Halak and many others have a mask from David Arrigo. Fleury or Huet have masks made by Stéphane Bergeron.
