You know.. it is kinda exciting though.

And doomsday isnt really doomsday anymore, considering how well some of the returns have done.

And what kind of trade value does Kalinski have?! wtf
Who knows. Maybe we just dump him for future considerations to get under the limit.

I am sure Blackhawk fans said the same thing about Matt Ellison

It doesn't necessarily take a big trade for Flyers to get to 50 contracts (w/ Kubina). A future considerations deal of an AHLer does it too.
Meltzer is jackin' my swag, yo.

I don't understand why the Flyers would want Nash. Their offense is great.

@tpanotchCSN - One more time. CBJ is pushing Nash to Flyers. Not other way around. Although flyers would like to upgrade in goal even in backup
At least we know, if this is true, the Flyers have leverage in negotiating. No way we give up Schenn or Couts imo.

I don't mind giving up JVR and Bob+ for Nash. Schenn and Coots are dealbreakers though. Coots is already being used as a shutdown center late in games, move in and you're counting on Talbot and....Talbot.

Hopefully Kubina makes Carle expendable in a Nash trade. Unfortunately, I feel like he is going to take the place of Meszaros or Coburn if a deal does go down.

JVR
Bobrovsky
Coburn/Mez/Carle

for

Nash
Mason

CBS probably wants Coburn badly. Holmgren probably wants to give him Carle instead and negotiate what pieces to add.

Meszaros is probably being brought up as a compromise between the two.

Not sure what I'd think if we gave up Coburn or Meszaros. I'd be fine giving Carle, but I just think Coburn and Mez are solid pieces for our long term D core.

EDIT: I also think that a Nash trade is imminent. We never needed two defenders (Grossman and Kubina). Gus and Bourdon have proven to be capable #6 guys. It's always good to have depth in case of playoff injuries, but we now have 6 legitimate top 4 guys not including Pronger. Seems redundant to me, and makes it appear as if Homer understands one of them will be leaving shortly.

Oh look, Timmeh is just sticking to his job and reporting the news. And it's good news.

JVR shouldn't go anywhere, and especially not for Rick Nash. I am pretty sure Holmgren isn't that dumb.

Nash is not a winner and won't get any better. JVR is a big game player (from what we have seen) and is going to get better.

to clairfy: As of right now, Nash > JVR. But not by nearly enough to make the trade make any sense.

Right, but on that day it was a very fearful for the future type feeling

Eminger for a 1st is the only time that I can think of that Homer has made a dumb trade when a cap situation wasn't forcing his hand.

I'm finding the lack of a news story about the Kubina deal on the Flyers main website or Twitter page a little odd

How can you even say Nash is not a winner when hes never been in a position to prove that?

It's not official until the Flyers lose a contract.

Pretty sure it's not 100% official yet. We have to get to 50 contracts.

Then why does NHL.com have a story on the trade? Not doubting that what you said is the reason ... I just find it odd from the Flyers standpoint

Yeah, but trading for Rick Nash is not something that is necessitated by cap issues, so none of those examples are relevant here.

They're relevant if you're convinced Homer is dumb like I am.

Believe what you will, but I don't think Homer is out-matched when it comes to discussing trades with fellow GMs.

Holmgren also has a rep of being pretty straight forwards. Deals either happen or they don't.
