Cin as a player I get where you're coming from but as a player is Morrow doing his teammates any favors by gimping around the ice, taking bad penalties, *****ing about the refs and basically being invisible?
Respect that he suited up once or twice but when it becomes blatantly obvious that he can't perform at the level required continuing to hobble out there costs the team.
There's something that the fans don't understand. You view it as this horrible situation that he's being selfish and trying to play through pain. He's being a captain trying to suit up as much as possible for his team. Sure he should be out, but he's earning a lot of respect from his team by showing up.
Morrow won a gold medal the same way Blake Sloan won a Stanley Cup.
Don't even get us started on how he played that year with the Stars, only to turn it on in the Olympics either. The luster on Morrow as our great blue collar captain really started to fade that year with his situational play. Since then he's done nothing to dispel the notion that he's turned into an entitled, situationally motivated, selfish player.
Morrow won a gold medal the same way Blake Sloan won a Stanley Cup.
That's absurd, Morrow was a key part of that team. He gave them that jolt they needed to get their game in gear and ended the tournament playing significant minutes.

Without the energy of Morrow, how did Toews and Crosby move forward. It's a mystery how they've continued to dominate the league without him.
I don't mean to be sassy (well, kind of), but if I were to list the key's to team Canada Morrow wouldn't even make my top 10. On a team with Crosby, Toews, Iginla, Getzlaf, Weber, Keith, Pronger, Perry, Staal, Thornton.... you get the idea. Each of those players has pretty consistently outperformed Morrow since the Olympics, too, and that's not just coincidence. Morrow was a side addition to a completely stacked team.
Morrow played extremely well in the Olympics and gave the team energy, exactly what he was brought into do. The problem was he was playing like **** with the Stars that entire season in an effort to "conserve energy."

A lot of those others players you listed didn't play well in the Olympics. Morrow did. Until things got down to the elimination stages Team Canada wasn't looking very good at all and was suffering from classic All-Star team syndrome. I fail to see how what those other players did before or afterwards in the NHL has to do with anything. Morrow started as a "side addition" and played his way into a crucial role. He earned his gold medal.

Benck is right. Morrow was key for team Team Canada the way Jake Dowell is key for the Stars today.

This is revisionist history of the highest order.
During those Olympics Morrow looked as close to his '08 playoff self as I've ever seen. He started on the 4th line and soon found his way playing way up the lineup. He was the guy they stuck with whatever line wasn't clicking and they almost immediately started looking good and creating chances.
That entire year began my jaded view of #10 because of how well he played in the Olympics compared to his effort for his club team. It was so high compared to so low. To say though, that Morrow was a flea on the back of a beast that was absolutely definitely going to win gold is indeed absurd. If you cut that roster in half and separated players who most contributed to the medal Morrow would be on the more impactful side of things. I mean, it took that All-Star roster OT to finish off a severely under-classed Team USA. Change one single factor and it's possible they either blow away the competition and cruise to a gold medal, or they may not even have made it to the gold medal game.
What glovesave said. Morrow's piss poor performance leading up to that selection, not playing so he could get healthy for those games, then amazing set of games during the Olympics only to return to Dallas and play like this year's version of Morrow is what set me on my anti-Morrow crusade.
I can and have ragged the man for all manner of things but his performance during the Olympics was basically the height of his career along with the 2008 playoffs. That he's been a shell since has continued my hate for the player.
We've discussed this, actually. I wouldn't say Eriksson made him better, looking at his success in Tampa, but Eriksson sure is fine without him.
Perhaps but when Richards was really successful in TB was in 05-06. Richards numbers in Dallas were better while playing with Eriksson so the argument that Eriksson made Richards better probably rings true.

I'm not saying he didn't, but Richards posted 62+ points in 5 straight years in Tampa. Looking just at PPG, he did better here, but I think you could argue he was just as good in Tampa.
That, and a majority of his points here came from on the PP, where Eriksson likely wasn't as huge a help to him.
He needs elite wingers, though, that's for sure. Who were his wingers in Tampa?
I know I have been a naysayer but does anyone here really like Gully? He seemed like he learned nothing from Crawford's failure to rest Lets. No way lets should have played in Vancouver. he should have gone straight to SJ and rested and his back to back record sucks anyway. His defensive pairings are questionable and the use of Morrow well that has been well discussed. Does Gully stay if we miss the playoffs or can we actually get someone who is not just lucky to be here.
