Yeah Parise and Benn probably get more. And that's not a defense I like. I'd rather put some of the money there.

That's a pipe dream. If we were a big market like New York that players want to go to, sure. But you're not going to convince 2 prime FAs to come to Dallas.

I still think Ribeiro goes nowhere, and will remain #2 center.
If for some reason Parise ends up here, that would obviously be great.
Something like...
Parise - Benn - Eriksson
̶Morrow - Ribiero - Ryder
Ott - Fiddler - X
Nystrom - Wandell - Burish
X
I'd rather go after Suter than Parise right now. Obviously the market will be bigger for Suter, but we've got loads of money, and while I'm not saying go out and offer him a 100mil/10yrs contract, I could easily see him making ~8 in the OS. His price will be insane. I'd be okay (not happy, but not mad) if we came here for 8, as he'd arguably be the best defenseman we've ever had (after Zubov no one's even close).
Parise would be amazing too, and I think we have a better chance of signing him, but I'll take my chances with Glennie/Vincour/Chiasson/Smiths/Guptill/Ritchie/everyone else. If we don't get 2 top 6'ers out of that, something's seriously wrong with how we develop players.
Just my thoughts. No way in hell we get both though, and if we do, we are eternally cap screwed. But that team is at worst a low-level contender.
Agree. If I had to chose between Parise or Suter I'd want Suter. I don't see where we're going to find a #1 defenseman anywhere anytime soon. We already have a couple top level forwards, even though yes we do need more top six scoring.
I'm guessing the whole Benn thing is a half truth. He has a massive cut on a part of the body that has to bend to skate. It can't heal if he's bending it. They are going to call him "day to day" until the trade deadline to not let other teams know. If Benn is out for a 2, 3, 4 weeks other teams will be able to suss out that we are trying to pawn people off and have given up on the playoffs, and other teams knowing that you are a seller will hurt the value of the players that you are selling. I also think the Morrow thing is kind of the same issue.
We're not going to get both Suter and Parise when one of them is in Detroit.
That's what scares me. Suter takes a hometown discount to stay for a solid competitor, Parise goes to Detroit where he plays with an elite level playmaker and consistently contends too.
I'm just so conflicted about this team... we're 4 points out of the lotto and 3 points out of the playoffs... i don't know what we should do.. should we tank or should we try to make a run for the playoffs... these overtime games and winning games only to lose i just don't know what to think
The team isn't going to tank. Hoping for them to do so is just going to set yourself up for frustration. They're also probably not going to make the playoffs. There will be a good player available where we pick, they just have to identify him. Meanwhile the team can continue to simultaneously buy/sell depending on the trade opportunity as long as it fits within the overarching goal of getting younger and more skilled.
Thats my problem, we will finish out of the playoffs yet again and end up where were going to pick another glennie campbell and stay on this road to mediocrity.
Lehtonen really is probably the reason we're even in this limbo
that and we have what 4 games against vancouver 3 against SJ and a bunch against stl/nash/chicago
Don't see why Parise wouldn't sign here. His father played for the organization, it's a young team with strong ownership and plenty of cap space. Players know by now signing with the "cup contender" doesn't do anything for them.

I don't see the reason for the pessimism regarding the draft selection. The person mainly responsible for those picks is gone.
The road to mediocrity is paved in the offseason. We knew going in that this was going to be a middle-of-the-road team that could challenge for the playoffs but might not make it. They're not going to suddenly flip a switch and become either terrible or awesome 2/3rds of the way through the season.
