Frankly, I'm less interested if it's only one of Nash or Carter.
IMO this makes a lot more sense in the whole timing of it and our needs, to get both and the push for solid PO hockey can start now.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm in no big rush, for solid PO hockey but this might be a opportunity to good to pass up.
LMAO these jack A$$es on tsn 1050 don't think we have the horses to move to make the deal.
They throw out names like Kadri,Schenn,Colb not being "sexy" enough and maybe tarnished prospects but in the same breath lauds names like Krieder/Dubinsky and player ion LA. HUH?? WTF does LA have left since the Richards trade?
Exactly this. If Burke is to overpay, i would hope it would be for a center. I just can't get over the fact that Nash has had a carreer high of 79 points, other than that, it's an average of mid 60's. Fort 7.8 mil i would be hoping for more.
In his defence he really has no supporting cast. Imagine him playing on the 1st PP as well as on a line with either Kessel (I'm pretty sure he can play centre) or Grabovski. I wouldn't doubt he'd average roughly a PPG and even exceed into the 90s every now and then.
So you like having komisarek, lombardi and armstrong cap hits instead? If we got nash and/or carter then its obvious that komisarek and lombardi will be gone and maybe armstrong. That's alot of cap space freed up. We are having no problems right now so if we just replaced those contracts with better players then its worth it. Plus we'd free up more space as schenn would most likely be gone and grabo might leave or macarthur might leave. So we might even open up 3-4m in space by making a trade.
Seriously? How long are each of those players you mentioned signed for? How difficult would it be to trade them, or demote if needed? We are talking about a player with one of the biggest cap hits in the NHL, has a NTC/NMC, and is signed for a very long time. I suppose Nash addresses the center ice position for the Leafs, and will allow cap flexibilty to sign players like Grabovski, Kulemin, Franson, Gunnarson and others?
Nash would likely get eaten alive in Toronto, and has not shown the ability to carry a team, especially with that contract and term. Pass thank you.
If it's a Phaneuf type garbage for Nash deal, I can see it being an acceptable risk given his contract, but generally, I think it's not the best idea to tie your mast to a guy like Nash at the expense of a ton of organizational depth.
Forget oragnizationl depth.
We have these prospects to trade: kadri, colborne, Aulie, blacker, frattin, mcKegg, biggs, percy, 1st 2012, ryynas, scrivens. Then we also have roster players like schenn, grabo, kulemin, macarthur, komisarek, lombardi, armstrong all available for trade. (I left out gardiner and franson as i don't think burke will move either).
Basically what your implying is that if we trade for Nash and/or Carter then we'd have to empty the cupboards. But if you look into those cupboards you'll see we have plenty to offer for Nash (and if CLB packages carter then he won't be worth much as people are saying he'd be a throw in to just get rid of him).
Now assuming we get Nash and Carter together we'd have a line up like this:
Nash + Carter for 1st 2012, schenn, kadri, colborne, aulie, macA, komisarek, lombardi + 1 or 2 lesser prospects.
lupul - carter/bozak- kessel
kulemin - grabo - nash
(w/e prospect didn't get traded)- connolly- armstrong
Now those two will be here for a long time. We shipped out about 14m and in return got 5.5+7.8. so we save a few hundred thousand. Cap goes up in the summer, we have about 7 years to restock the farm with more prospects (we still have a lot left in there) in a similar fashion to what burke has been doing for the last two years. I would be very happy with a team like that.
