Well hey, I was a Bayern fan growing up as a kid, so I could have stayed there, but Lothar Matthaus is long since retired (my favorite player growing up).

Not that I think it's fair to call new fans bandwagoners unless they're jumping on board during a playoff run or something, but whatever. Some "fans" are absurd like that and I guess hate new fans. Seems small minded to me. Hell, I don't begrudge anyone who became a Caps fan after Ovy was drafted. The more the merrier in my book.

Nobody has to justify why they're a fan.

I've mostly focused on explaining to them the culture and structure for the leagues and different cups.

Some of them are really starting from scratched and had to start with the concept of club vs national, though I got it down to a system now and have created some graphics and stuff. I'm excited for next year's season. I would really like to see the sport catch on in the States. I think it will pass the NHL not long from now.
NBC + the Fox channels coverage. I record every EPL game. Last year I watched them all. This year, if I don't care about the matchup, I'll usually just fast forward through and watch the goals.

Becoming and EPL fan the last two years has been a blast. It's like the NFL of England to me. High $$, high production value, etc...

I'm not, this all came from someone asking what the 3 major European trophies were, and the Cup Winners Cup was part of that group of 3 trophies

A 2nd year Chelski "fan" bragging about the Cup Winners Cup as part of his checklist is like an Ovechkin-era Caps fan bragging about the 98 Finals run.

It's only fitting that it's an all German final at Wembley. The Germans have shown they understand club football better than anyone else.

why quote me for this :S I have supported Chelsea from when I was 4 when I was given a choice of Chelsea or Spuds , unless you are on about CCF.

Because it's time to make the Cup Winners Cup relevant again so someone else's feelings won't be hurt? Oh well, some people can dish it out but can't take it.

Can't blame you for not choosing the Spuds either.

The Cup Winners Cup was relevant up until 1997, that is indisputable,

On a slightly related note, my Mum has said that the Cup Winners Cup win in 71 meant much more to her than the Europa League has,

Duh. Back in '71 Chelsea fans were actually Chelsea fans. Before the FA Cup win in '70 that club had won the League Cup in '65 and nothing else, ever. Their fans were actually fans of the club itself not just of winning.

Now 95% of Chelsea fans are actually Chelski fans, fans of the a nouveau riche club that they only support because they win by spending an unbelievable amount of money. If the money stops flowing so will the winning and the vast majority of these 'fans' will start supporting other clubs. Your mom will still be supporting Chelsea because it is actually her club...

Being a territorial fan is so small minded. Who really cares who supports or doesn't support a team and why they choose to do so? There's no license that must be granted to support a team.

small minded "fans" ftw huh? If this fantasy were true, there would never be new fans of teams. The notion is moronic.

Wrong. People become fans of new teams for a whole slew of reasons. Those who become fans of teams simply because they are currently winning are about the hardest to respect though and that includes the vast majority of Chelski and Citeh fans...

We won the league in 1955and should have been the first English club in the European Cup, ****ing FA. For me, going to games which aren't at Stamford Bridge are a lot more enjoyable, our home support is atrocious and the away games are so much more enjoyable, you don't get any people going who don't actually support the club. The 95% thing is a bit over the top though, the problem is, that the true fans of the club can't afford to go to the Bridge (for league games on the whole) anymore, you are looking at 50 on average to play a really poor team (ie Sunderland),the atmosphere on European nights is a lot better though, tickets are cheaper, less tourists are there. (Chelsea vs Shakhtar was amazing).

CCF - The thing you said about territorial fans is silly though, football fans are territorial by nature.

No, humans are territorial by nature. Fans hating on other fans for who they root for is moronic. It's one thing to jump on a team bandwagon when they're in the championship game, that's weak for sure.

Now that was a match worthy of a championship. Painful to watch either team lose, both played at a high quality and played attractive style.

10 of 14 shots on target for Bayern 8 of 12 on target for Dortmund. Not often you see the shots on target ratio that high.
