I think it's safe to assume he's not in the same league as Nighbor or Walker. But that is hardly damning...
I just would like to see more than one quote to say he's good defensively. At this point, I can say he's not a liability defensively.. I might even say he's slightly above average defensively, as that quote seemed to be all encompassing for his career rather than for any particular season.
That's one good quote about Harris' hook-checking, but it would be nice to see more. If he really was a "master" hook-checker, with all the praise heaped upon guys like Walker, Nighbor, etc., you should be able to find the same for Harris.
I can buy that Harris was physical, but I have researched the old hook-checkers quite a bit, and I never saw Harris' name mentioned. It may be that he used a hook-check, but I seriously doubt he was a "master" at the craft. His name is not mentioned in any of the contemporary pieces I have seen discussing hook-checkers. The names that consistently come up are Nighbor, Walker, MacKay, Lepine, Boucher and Smith.

At the very least, one good quote is better than none, and I am certainly willing to call Harris average to slightly above average defensively.
Mirtle also mentions, via Neil Greenberg, that ***** could be past his expiration date for peak performance, as "most goal-scoring wingers peak between ages 23 and 25, and then the decline begins to accelerate after age 26."
He's speaking of ***** being "past his expiration date" for elite production. I think this may apply to non-elite players, but I think the "expiration date" doesn't really apply to the elites. Don't understand what he was thinking when saying this about ***** ..

Reason: just because you don't think he belongs here doesn't mean he doesn't
I might have done that too Depends how everything works out.
We'll take another guy who played every skating position, but will likely settle into the 2nd line LW spot - Smokey Harris.
There seems to be some evidence that he was good defensively as well as a physical presence. He's a better playmaker, but a decent goalscorer. He's got a better offensive peak than Eddie Oatman, but not the same longevity. He was also pretty dynamite in the play-offs, leading all scorers twice, and leading his team another time.
A worthy 68 pick jump. Here is my bio from last year on him:

It applies for goal scorers a lot of the time. Even the elite ones.
It xxxx's case he might be more than offset by having an actual team to play with, though.

Reason: undrafted but I doubt he is much of a secret atm
I found a few things in newspapers and books. I would assume he found the same things.
The thing about Pelletier’s bios is that they are created like a Billy_shoe bio. Snippets from google books can definitely be found. He’s not an expert on the old players and has to learn about them before he can profile them, just like us. He finds things like this, and then paraphrases them into his bios.
I have seen him paste stuff about players from the “scouting report era” (1973-2004) almost word for word when describing his skating (i.e. “he didn’t have the greatest speed but he had a good first step and good balance”)

Nope, it is definitely true of many players. Goal scorers like him seem to have their peak in that age range, for whatever reason.
And we are at pick 400+. Don’t mention anyone taken in the top-800 last draft, please and thank you.
I'm just surprised Pelletier is not one of us yet.For a guy with that level of passion for hockey it's strange that he wouldn't be part of such a community. Is there any other hockey community comparable to what we have here?

I've invited him a few times (ATD12, 2010, 2011) but the guy is just too busy doing the blog thing so I gave up.

He doesn't want to be roasted for picking Mark Messier over Jean Beliveau or Bobby Hull:
1893 Montreal AAA is proud to select D Shea Weber. His Norris trophy voting record is 2nd, 4th, 7th, possible*finalist* this season.
Damnit, I was hoping he would still be on the board in another round. Had I known that someone else was looking as hard at him as I would I would have tried to trade up. Nice pick.
Fourth line with Hlinka and first PK unit (with Hlinka too). RW I want for my first line is gonna be available for a few more rounds I think.
That's the start of an elite fourth line, if I ever seen one!

I also want to be convince. I ever read anything describing Hlinka as an elite enough PK player to put him on a first PK unit, but it's not like I read everything I could on him.

Man, am I the only one woh just never planned on taking Shea Weber at all? He's a great pick at this point, but for those modern guy I really need to see the big talk ''I'm still available!'', to consider taking them (aka Crosby).

He's big, physical, defensively smart and great on thye PP. At this point that's just not available any other way.
