bringing up salak is a terrible idea. the hawks will be playing tough teams and need to win these games and now is not the time to experiment with salak. crawford and emery can both play well. starting emery these past few games is crawford's wake up call. you don't need salak to do that. crawford can either feel sorry for himself for being benched, or he can learn from it, and come out strong his next start. crawford or emery give the hawks a much better chance at winning than salak at this point

If they waive Crawford, I might consider it

I want to see ANYBODY but Crawford or Emery in net for at least a little while. With the expanded rosters, I'd call up Hutton/Salak to alternate for 4 games while Crawford and Emery sit in the press box and think about their seasons while watching them. Re-evaluate everything after those 4 games.

One of the many big problems with the goaltending this year is the enormous amount of excuses and praise they have been given when they do anything semi-competent. What they need now, what is best for them and the team, is to single them out for their faults in this way.

No they don't. They provide a 0% chance. Salak is either the same or better.

The concept of calling up Salak at any point before October is hilarious.

Considering nothing is lost by doing it, I don't follow.

that is false. how does a goalie with no nhl experience and similar stats in the AHL to crawford and emery's NHL stats provide a better chance than two goalies with playoff experience. like i said, now is not the time to experiment with salak

Maybe the concept is hilarious but actually doing it has no downside. If a move has no downside but even a sliver of potential upside, I'm for it. This Blackhawks team needs anything it can get.

the downside is the hawks lose more games than they should and end up being a 7 or 8 seed and playing a much better team in the first round. then trying to get crawford or emery to clean up salak/hutton's mess at the worst possible time

so we just like a perfectly capable nhl goalie go to waivers bc we don't have to worry about anyone picking him up. dumb. keep crawford/ emery in the nhl and salak/ hutton in the ahl so they can all keep playing

I don't get why he is still in Rockford as of 8:30 this morning. Our goalies are pathetic.
These comments are getting ridiculous. Emery came up huge in games over the weekend. Huge. So he let in a couple of tough goals last night. Salak has been terrible in the AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE. Give it up, the guy is clearly not ready this year. The fact is, he could easily be worse than Emery or Crawford, who have at least had some very strong showings in the past few weeks.

No downside? What are you, insane? He could easily be even worse than Emery & Crawford and could cost us a playoff spot.

Your blind hate for Emery needs to stop. As someone who played goalie for a long time you don't really seem to understand the position. Is Emery a great goalie? No he is not but he has been an above average backup and that is what we have asked of him. Emery is positionally sound which allows him to make up for his sub par lateral movement. Crawford lets a lot of goals go through him and at this point this year Emery has not. We lost last night becasue the team played terrible. If we would have played with the drive that we played with in Detroit it would have been a different game. The Hawks left Emery out to dry and he could not pull of a miracle. We would have lost last night no matter who our goalie was (minus Rinne or Lundqvist, who both would have needed a perfect performance to pull it off). No one expected Crawford to **** the bed as bad has he has but he has and to me Emery has done a decent job of trying to make up for it. Salak is not a bad goalie but at this point he is not really an upgrade for the Hawks.

I think before you comment about Emery again you need to try and be a little less biased becasue you have not really ever given the guy a chance. Last year you did not bash Turco 1/10th the amount of times you have came on to these boards and trashed Emery even though Turco's performance was 2 times worse. Get a little clarity.

Not making the playoffs is a downside.

We have two of if not the worst goalies in the NHL this year. Visually and statisically, take your pick or both. Time to try our luck with others. And as far as this holding on for dear life for that 8th seed waxing, that does nothing for us. It gives Wirtz a few bucks, which means nothing to any of the fans. We'd get a better pick and learn more about our young goalies. That's good. And besides all of that, they give 4 games to Hutton/Salak and very likely get at least 2 points out of it and still make the playoffs. Even if they lost all 4 in regulation, they still look good to make the playoffs.

And it's about Crawford/Emery as much as taking a shot on someone. They need to sit in the press box and watch. They need to be humbled, badly. It can only help them.

We are the 6th seed in the confrence and you are acting like we are in last place.

We're not Cup contenders. Add Salak and/or Hutton doing an improbable Lalime/Hedberg impression and we might be. Add 4 losses, who cares. Add a lottery pick because of it and you actually get a positive out of this lost season.

Really because last time a check Philly was not a contender as the 7 seed when they played us in the finals (Boston was only a 3 seed). The playoffs allow streaky teams to win. Are we better than last year? Yes. Did we take the Canucks to Game 7 as an 8 seed? Yes. Are we favorites for the cup? No but I would never say that we don't have a chance with the talent this team brings to the table.

Flyers made it to Cup Finals as 8 seed. Anything can happen in playoffs. You just need to get there.

Lose 4 games in a row and you are NOT going to get there. At this point, it is way, way too close in the West. Everyone else is winning and teams 8, 9, and 10 all have 74 points. This is shaping up exactly the same way last season did.

This team goes as the entire team's effort goes. When you look at last night, nobody had it. You can't blame Emery for the struggles of an entire team.

Same goes for games against Dallas, LA, and Anaheim. The entire team just didn't show up for those games. Easy to blame Crawford for a soft goal here or there, but it doesn't matter. The team didn't show up. Score 2 goals in 3 games, blame Crawford! Score 1 goal on the road against best team in NHL, blame Emery! It's all ****ing nonsense.

If Salak was ready, I doubt he would still be in the AHL. And by all accounts, he is not ready.
Let’s face it, Stan has failed to make this team better, when there were goalies to be had (and probably for draft picks). Or, is it Rocky who has tied Stan's hands, unwilling to spend any more money? I don’t know, and until Stan writes a book we’ll never know, but fact is, this team ain’t going anywhere this year. That was determined on Feb 27th.

This is just so rediculous...u realize we are in a favorable position in the west if we get the 6th seed. Putting in goalies that are unproven and worse statistically in a lower league isnt going to help this team. Getting in the playoffs REALLY does mean something to the fans. and please dont give me getting a better pick nonsense.

Wirtz getting a "few bucks" is a good thing for the orginazion as much as you dont want to admit it.

Salak's 4-9 with a 2.8 GAA/.900 save% in the AHL...

Exactly. The team is going nowhere. Hutton and/or Salak wouldn't be the first guys to get a shot at the NHL and run with it, at least for a month or two. I don't understand how people can say it ruins the season to give these guys 4 games. The season is ruined. I admire the optimism displayed by some but that's all it is. We need something tangible.
