This doesn't happen because the Stars (specifically Gaglardi) said they won't make trades that make them worse today. They aren't interested in trades for future pieces.
I'm starting to hope they reconsider. I get that it's a loss to Detroit, but now Anaheim is 4 points back. Plus, you get to look forward to 4 games against Vancouver and 3 against SJ. They're running out of time, and I'm running out of believe they can pull anything off.
Trading Ribeiro is the wrong move, though. Trade him, and it's essentially sparking a total teardown of the entire "veteran" roster.
I think he stays, and instead we see the likes of Morrow/Robidas/Souray/Ott on their way out. Ribeiro is a bigger and more vital part of this team right now, moreso than any of those players, IMO.
Of all active Stars, these are the ones I'd rather we keep:
Ribeiro, Benn, Eriksson, Vincour, Goligoski, Larsen, Daley, Fistric, Lehtonen, Bachman. On the fence about Ryder, but I'd be fine with keeping him for the duration of his contract. When he shows up, he's dangerous in the offensive zone and we need more of that.

I think he was just giving the media lip service with that. He said if we make any trades were not going to be sacrificing the future but our trading vs standing pat was going to depend on performance b/w now and the deadline
And yeah ribeiro is the one of the vets i would want to keep
Chicago SHOULD be after Ribeiro and Robidas given that their top D is logging heavy minutes and Coach Q doesn't seem to trust Olsen/Leddy and their top center in Toews is playing injured. Washington should also be after Ribeiro given that THEIR top center in Backstrom is out with a concussion. Plus various other teams who need stronger center depth that are in the running for the playoffs (hello Nashville and Phoenix if they could afford him).
I believe Ribeiro can and should be moved if someone is willing to give up the right package. The right package includes a young guy who can step into the lineup now and provide at least some of the scoring we may lose with Ribeiro plus some future assets. Frolik and a guy like Pirri or Kruger who is stuck down the depth chart might be enough to both increase our top 6 depth and future prospects. Damn the pick, honestly. Anything more is gravy.
Burish? Replaceable bottom 6 character guy. It would be nice to keep him around but he needs to earn his keep right now, and he hasn't been doing much of that.
So all in all Ribs and Robidas for Frolik+Olsen+McNeill+1st&5th ?
What about Ribs and Robidas to Washington for Johansson+Orlov+Galiev+1st&5th ?
Dear lord that's gross overpayment by the Caps. Mojo is a good 2/3 C already, Orlov looks poised to be a guarantee top 4 Dman, and Galiev is a solid Russian prospect... Too much honestly.

That said I'd totally take it.
Take of the 1st and Galiev??? Ribs and Robidas for Johansson, Orlov and say a 3rd?
Ott ($2.95m until 2014) + Grossman ($1.625m - UFA)
or
Burish ($1.15m - UFA) + Robidas ($3.3m until 2014)
or
Burish + Robidas
Obviously the returns would be different for each package. In the 3rd Dallas probably takes back Brunette (salary) + picks/prospects, whereas in the others they would likely need to take Frolik + picks/prospects to even it out over a longer term.
