Has anybody else realized that in Feb of 2002 Tom Brady lost in the Superbowl and the Wings won the SC. In Feb 2008, Tom Brady lost in the Superbowl and the Wings won the SC. In Feb of 2012, Tom Brady lost in the Superbowl...............
Way to go Tom....Taking one for the home team Go Blue, Go Wings

No he didn't, he won the Super Bowl that year.
The year you were looking for was January '97. January '97 the (Drew Bledsoe led) Patriots lost the SB and Feb 08 Brady lost.
The last 2 times the Patriots (not Tom Brady) lost the Super Bowl the Red Wings won the Cup.
This. I was thinking about dishing out $200+ for two tickets for last nights game but I figured I would rather spend that kind of money on seeing them lift a Stanley Cup.
Really? You think $200+ will get you into the Joe on a night that they might raise the cup? Either that + is very very large or you are delusional. I dropped $1,500 for one ticket for game 4 back in 1997 and it wasn't even a great seat.

You are quite right sir, the Pats beat the Rams that year. Thanks for the correction!!!

It was $500 each for a couple buddies of mine to see the Pens beat them in Game 7 in '09....Oh God, why did I think of that...

Yeah, economy wasn't as good in 09 so they were going a bit cheaper. Unfortunately for me I was going up against a 42 year drought and an economy flush with internet money.
I'd love to find a way to get average winning streak length for the seasons before and after the shootout. And something like number of 5+ game winning streaks in the season, etc.
Everyone BSes like they know the shootout made a difference or parity has an impact but it would be refreshing to see if there is any way to tease out some stats that might put some theories to rest.
only stat you need to know is that the previous record home win streak since the shootout began was 14 by the bruins in 08-09. if the shootout made it so easy to win games, teams would of beaten the old record years ago
Story on NHL.com about Detroit's home winning streak.

Not long after he was finished, Lidstrom headed toward the weight room, too. After completing a marathon interview session with reporters at his locker stall, trying to put the big win into some kind of historical perspective, he had his own postgame routine to finish.
"I think you have some pull-ups left to do," a reporter quipped, as Lidstrom walked toward the weight room. "Twenty-one of them, to be exact."
Lidstrom laughed. He paused for second to think of a good comeback and replied: "No … 22."
