LOL
In their defense they've pretty much said they're speculating. It's people who've taken what they've said and ran with it in all directions.

Nope thats an overpayment IMO, and will rip a lot of the future depth from the Islanders. Nino himself has 30 goal potential, DeHaan should be a top 4 defenseman, Poulin and Nilssen are really good prospects, and a 1st round pick as well? No thanks.

I would probably say yes to this deal, but not at the deadline, it would have to be offseason.

i think 7.8m for 60-70pts a year is a bit much, but imagine him on a team with actual players to pass the puck to...his assist number could almost double. at that point, hed be worth his salary for sure.

EDIT : Oops, didn't read the OP post, I have to admit!
The thing about that list is Nash could be SOL there. The teams on his list may not have the cap space or the pieces that some other teams have that can give Columbus a better return. Columbus won't move him if they underwhelmed by some of the offers from the said teams on his list. In that case Nash has to expand his choices or Columbus simply doesn't trade him.

I don't think Howson actually wants to trade Nash. Otherwise his supposed offers wouldn't be so freaking ridiculous.

Seriously, it's like he's hoping GMs for good teams are as stupid as he is.

Well in negotiation you generally shoot for the moon then get low balled and meet in the middle.

If in fact those are the 5 teams, here is what I think Howson would want.

Vancouver: Schneider, Hodgson, Ballard + 1st pk (Cap sp: $47.7K)
Philly: Bobrovsky, JVR, Couturier + 1st pk (Cap space: $0K)
NYR: Dubinsky, Stepan, Girardi (Cap space: $1.5M)
Toronto: McCarthur, Schenn, Kadri + 1st pk (Cap space: $1.3M)
Kings: Bernier, Johnson, Stoll, Voynov (Cap space: $689K)

Big asks, but remember these are Columbus' wants. Thoughts?
It would not dump enough cap space, and there's no way the Flyers trade Couturier. Couturier + JVR + Bob + 1st is wayyyyyy too much for Nash.

I understand wanting a top prospect back, but Vancouver NEEDS Hodgson. For cap considerations, we would have to include Raymond as well, making it another Schneider, Raymond and Ballard proposal. I have no problem adding most other prospects, say Schroeder, Rodin, even possibly Tanev or Jensen, but the combination of cap hit, versatility and skill make Hodgson an absolute non starter.

I can't comment for certain on Philidelphia, New York or Los Angeles, but I'm sure being in the playoff hunt with their young, low cap hit players means alot as well.

I also don't see Toronto's proposal being upto the other ones. Fine young players all, but MacArthur isn't more then a cap dump to Columbus in my eyes, with Umberger, Huseilius and others taking the top two LW positions, not to mention Vermette, Brassard, Carter, Boll, Prospal and Johansen and Dorsett, Gillies, Letestu and Pahlsson all being present. Schenn fills a need and is still a valuable player, but him packaged with Kadri and a 1st doesn't stack up to the other two offers IMO. JMFJ, Stoll and Bernier for present and Voynov for futures, Dubi and Girardi from NYR and Stepan as the key prospect, and Bob, JVR and Couturier....all better cores, and more then what Vancouver is offering IMO as well in terms of flat, even value.

it's all speculation, including the supposed "list." some of them are common sense, but apparently, according to Aaron Portzline, Nash's list hasn't been made public.

I know, but if the Rangers' first offer has any truth to it it's as if Howson said, "we don't need a big time prospect or another first round pick, we need to gut your current roster".

Nash wouldn't waive his NTC to come here, so this is a no go.

Islanders wouldn't do this in my opinion. They've messed their team up in the past with trades and now you're asking them to mess with their future?

There's no way both Schneider and Hodgson could go the other way. That's one of the best young goalies in the league+a calder trophy candidate.

It's as if Howson said nothing because the truth is that the OP made that proposal. The OP is proposing to gut your current roster to get Nash. There's no documentation anywhere that states what Howson is looking for in return or what teams he officially has Nash's blessing to talk to.

I really don't think its messing with their future at all. They have their core locked up, JT, Moulson, Okposo, Grabner, and Nielsen. They have Strome, Nelson, Lee, Cizikas, Kabanov and Petrov in system who all have loads of potential. On the Defensive side they have Donovan, Mayfield, Pedan and Kichton all strong defensive prospects and whoever they were to trade in this prosposal in terms of goalies Poulin/Nilsson, they still have 1 of them as well as Koskinen. This is a deal where if were actual reality they would have to do. Nash along with their current core of forwards would be pretty damn good.
