If he gets traded look on the bright side. We will be getting something good back in return. Letting him walk would be a huge mistake. Since we plucked him off waivers, its total win.

Get something now and then offer him a good contract, same with Nabby and Jurcina.....
That really never works.. If they get traded away it's usually for good.
I don't think my opinion of a player has ever shifted as much as it did with PAP... The dude infuriated me at times last year and now he's one of the best players on the ice.

I agree about PAP but he will be overpaid by someone other then the Isles...I really want the Isles to keep him, but just know he won`t resign for anything less then big dollars
The fact that there has been almost no trade talk involving PA tells me something is brewing. It's so Garth to be so tight lipped. He better get the coffee ready Sunday night because he should definitely get some calls up until Monday 3pm.
PA Paranteau ****ing owns, but if he's netting a guy to fill that top four role for next season (i.e. NHL ready for next season/under contractrights held for next year) than its acceptable. But otherwise, hell no.
I remember another late blooming Islander who took off in his UFA year... a fella by the name of Jason Blake. Turned his great year into a great-big contract and he never was the same.
Cant trade PAP. Want to trade him? Find someone in ufa with his production who is going to get less money. Aint gonna happen. Why would you trade a guy who is a top 6 forward we need AND wants to stay.

Parenteau and his agent are looking at a guy like Hemsky,on pace for 25-30 points and coming off shoulder surgery, get signed for $5m per
Some team that will be coming off a disappointing 2011-2012 playoff run ,will offer Parenteau outragious money this summer.I just don't want it to be the Isles.Let them spend overhauling the defense.
This guys Price is going UP and UP........I like him I just dont want to end up regreting overpaying for him...If we overpay it has to be for a SURE THING top 4 dman.....I like PAP but he def has the potential to be the next Leino..
PAP even said in an interview that this will be his best chance to get paid in his playing days....Hes going to the money this Off season and Im not mad and dont blame him. I would rather trade him than pay him 4mil per for the next 5 years and hope he can keep up his production....Also While guys like Grabner, PAP, and KO are good, we need a STAR winger....Moulson is are only real top 6 Winger imo in terms of production...If we keep signing these guys our top 6 wont change and we will be the same NON playoff team for a long time, even if we upgrade the defense..For somereason Wang and Snow cant seperate Buisness and friendship so basically once you have one good season and sign a deal, they wont trade you, even for an upgrade..

And who is going to replace his 70 pts that he should get to? Gotta pay market value. Sorry, he has got to be kept.
If PA goes for picks/prospects, I'm going to bang my head repeatedly against the wall until I get knocked out.
Well, you can get mad, or realize that if PA stays it means Garth thinks he can re-sign him. If he goes, Garth doesn't think he will re-sign. At that point, you have to take the best you can get.

They do need a star winger. But I say they also need PAP. The way I see it, PAP is the closest thing this team has to a real 1st line winger. I say resign PAP, get the star winger, get the #2 center, and somehow someway get the top pairing Dman. Only then will this team take the next step.
Those are the things this team has needed for the last 3 years, and we're yet to get a single one of them. It needs to be done already.
I don't think this is just a case of PAP playing great in his walk year. I'm sure a little bit of that has to do with it, but he doesn't seem to me to be the type of player who would just stop hustling after he got paid. The guy busted his butt every shift he's ever played as an Islander. I see no reason to think that would stop once he gets his 4+ million a year. I say give it to him & trade Okposo and Grabner for other needs so they can make room for the better talent the club needs to acquire this summer.

How much do you give him? For how long?
Consider that he had the same exact stats as Leino before Leino got his big contract...last year. This year he has been even better.
Will he give up his UFA rights for less than $5M per? Do you give him that now? If he closes the season strong, does he ask for 5.5? 6?
If somebody else gives him 5x5, should we match that? Assuming this team will be close to the floor for the next few years, can we afford that kind of risk? (and yes, any player who doesn't make the NHL until 25 and has 2 good seasons only is a risk).
Ok boys, I'm here as the voice of reason, and will tell you exactly what needs to be done with PAP...
First off, our top priority has to be resigning this guy..... Pap has progressed into a very very good player and is the closest thing this team has to a top line winger that can play with Tavares... He is top 5 in the league in assists, and one thing he can do that none of our other top 2 line players do, is play physical... He's passionate and aggressive...
But with that said, we can't let a player of his value (which is peaking right at this very moment), walk away without getting anything... That would seriously set this team back... Where would we possibly replace his 70 points??
So here's what needs to be done:
Garth needs to go to Pap and his agent today (if he already didn't do so in the last couple of days), and basically give them our best offer..... Garth needs to extend the team's best offer and tell Pap/agent, they have 24 hours to accept or give one last counter proposal, because as much as Pap is valued and needed by this organization, we can't let a player of his value (stroke Pap's ego a bit Garth), walk at the end of the season for nothing.... And then make it very clear to Pap, that if he doesn't accept, a deadline deal is very very likely.... Be honest with Pap and really test his loyalty, as he says he really wants to stay here..... Garth will be the one to determine what is the very best he is willing to offer Pap, but if I had to throw a number out there, something like 4 years 18 million (4.5 per year), should be about right.... Can he probably get a little more in the offseason... probably.
So basically, by the deadline Monday, Pap should either be resigned, or traded..... But doing nothing and increasing the chances of losing him in the offseason with nothing in return should not be an option... Something has to be done by Monday.

I say they should offer him 2 contracts. 1 with more $ per year but shorter length & another with more years but less $. 3/15 or 5/22. I'd be happy with either one.
if another team offers him significantly more, then so be it. If he signs elsewhere then I just hope the Isles reinvest that $ in some other player(s). It's going to be roughly 75 points we're losing.
As long as the NYI offer him a competitive offer, I think he'll stay.
As for Leino, that contract was based on a great playoff run & 1 good season. PAPs will be based on 1 good season & 1 great season plus hopefully the playoffs. If that contract is going to be used as a measuring stick, then fine. I don't mind paying him an average of 4.5 per year. I don't know enough about Leino to really comment as to why he's not putting up points this year, but his situation has nothing to do with PAP as far as I'm concerned. Yeah he might be more of a risk then a guy who broke out as a 22 year old, but PAPs play speaks for itself. His work ethic & his dramatic improvement in terms of how he thinks the game tells me that he isn't the type who will fall off once he gets paid. As I've said before, I think he's the closest thing this club has to a 1st line winger.
The Isles want to wait until after Sunday’s 5 p.m. game against the Senators to decide if they’re buyers or sellers. GM Garth Snow waived veteran RW Brian Rolston Saturday. A decision has to be made on RW P.A. Parenteau. A potential FA, he has expressed a desire to stay with the Isles, but there are several teams, including the Senators, Hawks, Bruins and Leafs, looking for depth up front. If Parenteau is in play, he’s going to get a lot of attention
