That has as much to do with the tremendous lack of balance and depth in the top-heavy east than it does any sort of success on the part of the Raptors.

From Casey's post-game yesterday after beating Cleveland:

Quote:
The Raptors have been fielding calls all year but have not been particularly aggressive on the trade front. The plan remains to keep all options open for next season, which means not taking on any more salary extending past this season. “No. I don’t sense anything happening, especially anything that’s going to affect our flexibility, cap flexibility next season, us going into free agency,” Casey said when queried whether he is expecting any action at Thursday’s trade deadline …

Whip out the popcorn, boys.

D'Antoni steps down shortly after rumours that Melo was unhappy with him and wanted to be traded and that D'Antoni wanted Deron instead of Melo.

And the supposed D12/ORL fiasco is post-poned for another year as he's supposedly picking up his 2012-2013 option.

I don't understand why Knicks hired D'Antoni in the first place. Sorry, but I don't consider coaching if all you're doing is running up the court and taking a shot within 5-10 seconds of a shot clock while playing no defense.

And lol @ Melo wanting out. It seems like whatever move that organization makes is a mistake.

I think the Knicks should replace him with Don Nelson. All-time wins leader on the market.

Ya same. Think its a pretty weak return but at least it improves the draft position hopes.

On the bright side, this frees up even more cap space for us next year. We'll have a crazy amount available.

And it's good for the tank.

We couldn't even get a 1st? Late 1st in NBA are thrown out there like they are worth nothing.

Seems like Anthony Carter is heading there as well. So that will leave us just Bayless as the healthy point guard?

Apparently the Nets are offering their 1st rounder to whoever is willing to take Johan Petro and his contract off their hands.

edit: Seems like the 1st rounder may be going to Portland in a deal centered around Gerald Wallace.

It's only $3M hit and we only have to bear with him for one more year, so why not? Better than Alabi.

Wow.. just ignore the fact that Dwane Casey is the most professional and organized coach the Raptors have ever had. And a fantastic fit for the current squad. He needs more talent to succeed, and he'll get it soon enough (hopefully).

Forbes has been playing some PG when he manages to get into games. There's basically no room for him to play SF anyway.

EDIT: getting just a 2nd makes no sense. Barbosa is an expiring contract. So it's not like we're taking less in return to get cap space back for next year. If this is the only trade the team makes, then it seems entirely pointless.

hooray, that's likely a couple hundred grand at most. It's not like they're going to pay the salary of a future player for us or something.
