2 days and we find out where we land in the 2012 draft.

for anyone that hasn't been paying attention, right now we sit 8th. We have a small chance to move up to one of the top 3 spots, and an even smaller chance to be bumped back to 9 through 11 if teams behind us end up winning one of those top 3 spots.

What will the Raptors do at the draft?

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/05/28...o-at-the-draft

Trade the pick unless we move up into the top 3?

7th/8th is pretty much the worst possible position the team could've ended up in. The two things we need most badly are probably the two worst positions to be picking for in this draft. The pickings in terms of quality are slim, and the ones that might be there when the Raptors draft will all have significant flaws/concerns about their game. Presuming we stick at 8, Kidd-Gilchrist, Beal, Barnes, and Jones will all probably be gone, leaving the Raptors to sift through the wreckage at SG/SF and the limited # of options at PG.

Do you take Kendall Marshall who has all the pure PG/distributor skill in the world, but can't score to save his life in NCAA and will be even more hampered by that flaw in the NBA where opponents can better exploit his lack of quickness/speed? Do you take Damian Lillard who can score like few in the draft, but who would be basically a 2-guard playing the point on a team that already has one of those (Bayless) who is just as good if not better than Lillard would be? Do you take Dion Waiters who is supposed to be a great scorer, but i still kinda undersized for SG at 6'4 and has some questions about his D? Or Austin Rivers who has the same size questions as Waiters, but the additional potential issue of being an alleged selfish ball-hog who takes questionable shots whenever he feels like it? Or Jeremy Lamb, who can score, but seems to lack the motor to be a go-to player when the situation calls for it?

The Raptors really need to hope they can get up to the top 3, because if they want someone who really stands a chance of pushing this team forward, they need one of Davis, Beal, or Kidd-Gilchrist.

How has Ed Davis developed in the past year? Didn't get to see him play much he didn't seem to be that great of a shooter in the games I saw. Thanks

he didn't really. He played every game, but his minutes seemed sporadic and he seemed more passive than in years past.

And he was never really supposed to be a good shooter. He's supposed to be a post scorer. The lack of a jump shot was one of the flaws noted when he was drafted.

Man I want Anthony Davis.

Hell, even if we'd end up 2nd or 3rd I'd be ECSTATIC! I think MKG or Brad Beal would be huge for this team.

Is it possible to package Ed Davis and the 8th overall to acquire a higher pick and lower level player? Any team above us that needs help?

We can only hope. Even if a team takes Amir Johnson. Hopefully if we don't move up or down in the lottery, Colangelo can swing a deal to move up.

They can do it if they take on some salary which I think Raps should totally try to do because right now, they don't need cap space, they need high end talent.

12.32 chance of raps landing any top 3 pick. I like the nba lottery much more than the nhl one

I hope the Raptors can get into the Brad Beal or MKG territory. Anthony Davis would bring instant credibility. He's a KG with a good head on his shoulders.

Not that really want to be "that guy", but just for full disclosure, it's actually more like 12.4%

The Raptors and Warriors (the team sitting 7th in the lottery) finished with identical records, so what the procedure is in that case is that the odds of moving up from 7th and 8th are combined and split evenly between the two teams (well, not quite evenly. If the split doesn't produce an even number of lottery combos, the extra combo is assigned to the higher-seeded lottery team)

But for the most part, that number is almost statistically insignificant. Toronto has about a 3.5% chance of getting to 1st, a 4.1% chance of getting 2nd, and a 4.8% chance of moving up to 3rd. Golden State will only have about a 0.2% advantage on the Raptors (an extra .1% chance each at 1st and 3rd)

FWIW, the Raptors also have about a 72.4% chance of sticking at 8th, and about a 17.6% chance of being pushed back by 1-3 spots (16.8% of moving back to 9th, 0.8% chance of going 2 spots back to 10th, and a basically statistically insignificant chance of being beaten by 3 teams behind them in the lottery and ending up 11th)

and yes, I'm aware all those totals add up to like 102%. There's some rounding and percentage shuffling involved in there to smooth things out.

How many times has the #1 team not won the lottery?

The only one I can remember is the Raps winning the lottery for Bargs.

My want list:

1. Anthony Davis
2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
3. Brad Beal

But obviously we'll need a top 3 pick for those.

I'm beginning to think that if we end up getting anywhere from 8 to 10, we'll package that pick with perhaps Ed Davis to either move up into the top 5 (if there are any takers obviously) or trade it to a team for a proven veteran player who can still make an impact. Casey has said he'd like to have a more veteran presence as a whole on the roster, but I imagine we can address that via FA as well.

I doubt any team would be interested in Davis plus the 8th pick for a top five pick. Would you be?

Maybe Washington if we take back Lewis or Blatche, but other than that Davis isn't the sweetener to get a top 5 pick.

I would definitely be interesting in moving up. Would you guys consider moving Bargs to move up?

Nope. I would too. Anthony Davis is going to be a beast. Rebounding is huge in the NBA, Bargs can't rebound. Or play defense.
