Anyone miss the Bill Watters Show on AM640?

I know I miss this show. The only alternatives I have for my hockey fix on the drive home is TSN1050 and 590. Both are okay, but their hockey content does not compare to the Bill Watters Show. The Watters show was from 4-7pm and I would say that their content was at least 80% hockey during the hockey season. Even off season it was about 50%.

1050 and 590 cover a lot of baseball, football, and other sports. Which is fine, (that's what they're supposed to do), but being only a hockey fan, I miss all the hockey content on 640.

Anyone else feel the same??

No. I can't say I miss Bill Watters. There was a time I did enjoy his show when Jeff Marek co-hosted but that was a long time ago. Bill was losing it. His schtick was getting old. Listening to the bitter former MLSE employee was tiresome...he also had a penchant for badmouthing people and then being all buddy-buddy when he had that same individual in studio or on a phone interview.

They DO exist!!!

Seriously though, I miss Leafs Lunch circa Jeff Marek like six years ago. As far as the face-bleeding, senile dementia plagued, homophobic old man no, I do not miss him.

No, not really. I'd listen if he was still on from time to time, but I dont miss it. Bill became very bitter about the Leafs in the end.

It always seemed counter intuitive to me to hire people who were let go by a certain organization to cover said organization in a different aspect. (See Bill Watters and Glen Healy) They are generally unable to get over the bitter feelings and do their job free of bias.

I don't like homers by the same token, I prefer actual neutral analysis without the positive/negative blinders on but that seems impossible nowadays.

Yeah, way back it was pretty good to listen to. Sadly it just went downhill.

The hockey coverage is spotty at best between 5-7 with 590 and 1050. I wasn't a fan of Watters the person, but I could almost always assume they were talking hockey when I put on his show.

I miss the hockey content on 640 for 4-7. Lucky though , Hockey Night Radio is on Sirius Radio with Gord Stellick from 3-6pm weekdays channel 157. Nothing but hockey with all the familiar hockey analysts you would see on the CBC and other media. Very informative. As for Bill Watters, he still has some contacts. He mentioned in early December that the Leafs were talking to Colombus about Nash, who was being secretly shopped.

No. But I miss his surprise nosebloods on live tv.

Also, it's a fun game to guess what colour of hair Wilbur will show up with.

Yep, Watters had a good voice for radio and Jeff Marek was great. I know many people rip on Watters but he was always interesting to listen to, for me at least.

I miss Hayes & Watters, but I'm happy with Hayes in the afternoon & Cballs on the drive on TSN. Don't listen to the fan much, bobcat pisses me off.

Cybulski goes a bit overboard on the sound effects and dramatics sometimes, but generally they argue both sides of the point and are entertaining. The hits from the insiders all day helps too

I like Watters and defended him a lot, but I see why they did what they did - especially with their contracts coming up.

I do HATE arlene bynon though. Will not listen to a second of her.

I used to listen to Bill Watters show all the time but there's nothing on AM 640 to listen to now that interests me.

Exactly. I get into my car at 4:30pm everyday to drive home, and if I turned on AM640, I was almost guaranteed to hear hockey coverage for most of my drive home, which is about an hour.

Yesterday, I put on 590, and they're talking about golf. Golf!! In the middle of February. Ugh.

Again, I get that 590 and 1050 cater to all sports fans, but I do miss all the hockey coverage on 640.

agreed.

One thing AM640 did have was a discussion w/ at least one member of Leafs Management at least once a week every Monday & every Friday they chatted to Coach Wilson.

That was good content.

The podcasts on the new TSN radio are shyte & are full w/ more fluff than Ive heard on Tornto radio in a longtime.

Cybulski ain't that great & niether are his cronies

Hearing Dredger & Mackenzie on that station saves it.

The Bill Watters Show was my go-to drive home show.

Now I'm stuck with the Fearless Five at 5 on The Edge, Cybulski and Co. talking about sports that aren't hockey (they seem to do that a lot) and Bob Mccown's complete hockey ineptitude.

Jesus you actually enjoy listening to Arlene? I didn't know that was possible.

I used to listen to Mike Stafford all the time when I was in this talk radio phase a couple years ago. Don't really listen to the radio at all any more.

Toronto sports radio 12-3? options?

Is there any sports radio alternative to TSN Blue Lunch ( can't stand Jamie McClennan, extremely annoying) and I can't stand Kypreos/MacLean which are on the same time in mid mornings weekdays. 640am?

TSN/Sportsnet suck. Or maybe just the times I want to listen.

My listening time is approx. 12pm EST- 3pm EST

Thanks

Yup, I miss him. I was always a fan of his from way back. He was a good colour commentator too with Bowen.

Cybulski is horrible. I hate his use of "man" when he is talking to someone, as if he is meeting them on the street and they are long lost friends. Sounds unprofessional to me, and overall I feel he is out of his element. Maybe he should be DJ'ng for some dance station.

Bobcat still rules the airwaves.

I do like that 590 and 1050 seem to have commercials at different times, so once one station goes to commercial, I can pop over to the other.
