Danny Briere can relate to the Sabres. He's going through a scoring slump of his own.

The former Buffalo co-captain hasn't scored since Jan. 7 for the Flyers. That's a stretch of 17 games, six of which Briere missed because of a concussion.

"You try not to let doubts creep into your mind. You just try to keep going about your business and keep finding ways to get through," he told Philly reporters. "Right now they're not going in, but I'm sure at some point things will turn around."

Translation: Watch Briere have a hat trick tonight and help beat the Sabres as he's done so often since 2007....

One of the few highlights of the year was the beating Tropp put on Rinaldo. Too bad that game came out so poorly....

A bunch of mostly Philly lineup notes, including Jagr, Voracek, and Meszaros:
Quote:
Shelley is expected to replace Zac Rinaldo, who will start a two-game, NHL-imposed suspension for a hit on Detroit's Jonathan Ericsson

After missing three straight games because of the flu, Ilya Bryzgalov will return to the nets for the Flyers. In his last four games, Bryzgalov (2.78 GAA, .900 save percentage) has allowed a total of just six goals.

Jhonas Enroth (2.59, .919) will start for Buffalo over Ryan Miller.

Jaromir Jagr (flu), Marc-Andre Bourdon and Andrej Meszaros (upper-body injury) did not take part in Thursday's morning skate.

If Meszaros can't play, Andreas Lilja would be in the lineup.

Bourdon was apparently just given the morning off.

"He's fine," GM Paul Holmgren said in a text.

As for speculation that Bourdon would be traded, a source said the Flyers weren't close to making any deals and that "things are quiet."

The trade deadline is Feb. 27.

Forward Eric Wellwood was recalled from the Phantoms and is expected to be in Thursday's lineup. He will likely replace Jagr. Jakub Voracek (upper-body injury) skated Thursday morning and sounded as if he was ready to return.

Sure Gragnani has had his share of screw ups but Myers has had a ton more so be fair is all I am saying and look no further than his plus/minus which bares that out .
You are right. Myers has been worse than Gragnani. It's hard to mess up from the press box.

PHILADELPHIA -- Just minutes after Ville Leino signed a six-year deal with the Sabres last summer, Danny Briere said by phone that the forward should excel in Buffalo. Briere, who was Leino's linemate with Philadephia for two seasons, is as shocked as anyone that Leino has just four goals and 15 points in 45 games.

"I’m very, very surprised with that, especially with the amount of offensive guys they have on that team," Briere said after the Flyers' morning skate in Wells Fargo Center. "I thought it would have clicked with a few of their players at least. I always felt that myself and Ville were kind of on the same page as far as the way we saw the game offensively when we were on the ice. I know when I was in Buffalo I had some great years as well playing with [Jason] Pominville and Jochen Hecht, so I thought for sure at least those two guys would click well with him.

"But chemistry is a funny thing. You just never know, and you never know from year to year just how things are going to come back. It’s one of those things you can’t take for granted. It was fun for the past two years playing with him, but at some point you have to move on. I still wish him the best and hope things turn around for him."

I never said Myers sucks .

I did say he is vastly over rated by fans here easily .

How many games this year has Myers made a huge impact in ?

I can think of one and hell, come to think of it even Leino has given us at least one.

Woodhouse--not really that important, but just FYI: the text doesn't line up with the pictures on the right side (it goes past the edge of the pictures) under game preview and team notes.

He has shown he can Handle small parts of a season. Lately he hasn't performed that well. He has shown he can be good in small spurts, but for a long haul, he has shown to tireout real quickly.

HE has not shown he can handle a whole season..

And since I'm at it, Myers is how old? He has played what three seasons? Myers plays a position which not many players "take over" games. I can think of a few guys that can impact the way you WANT Myers to "take over" a game to justify your overrated stance you have for him:
Lidstrom
Pronger
Chara
Bieksa

Myers is a good Defender and will be one when he finally is paired with a guy more than 5 games in a row. He was lights out when paired with Tallinder for the year. Next year, he gets tossed around with unnecessary pressure thrown on him by the media, fans, and the coaches.

But, thats my opinion on the whole thing.

Anyone who thinks the Sabres are buyers at this point has NOT been paying attention.

I will never understand the short-term mentality, which is basically: "I wanna do whatever we need to do to just get into the playoffs", even if the team hasn't a snowballs chance of winning the Cup.

It's amazing what long-term good some will sacrifice just to extend the season another week and a half. In reality, you better hope this team loses the rest of their games...for the greater good in coming seasons.

Moorestown native hopes to earn way back onto Sabres roster.
Quote:
“I’ve got to wait for my opportunities because there are a lot of defensemen in the system. It kind of gets you thinking sometimes, but you’ve just got to stay patient. When you get an opportunity, you’ve got to make the best of it and separate yourself from other players.”

With Rochester off tonight, Brennan plans to gather with a few teammates to watch the Sabres-Flyers game on television with hope that when the teams meet again at the Wells Fargo Center on April 5 he’ll be playing.

“That would be pretty special,” Brennan said, “and hopefully down the line it’ll happen.”

In the scheme of things....so what?

When the other team walks away with the 2 points, I get NO consolation from "big hits" or "a beatdown". Classic case of "win the battle, but lose the war"

Or they want to give him a night off after he's started 10 in a row and as they're entering a 3 games in 4 nights.

Nahhhh, they're definitely looking to trade him and tonight is Enroth's first and last chance to prove he can be the guy.

Not to mention Miller's numbers versus Philly this year: 2 GP - 68' - 0-1-1 - 7.06 GAA - 0.822 SV%

That can't be it dude, they know that all they need for Miller to play "worlds better" is to have him see his wife, I know, have Terry pay her to come back every once in a while and see Miller so he plays well all the time.

Could just as easily point to his numbers against Montreal, tomorrow's opponent:

2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .971 SV%

Ruff is playing the numbers for once.

Philly has a lot of scoring ability...and they can put them in fast...and I think Enroth will be rusty AND may have a confidence issue at this point. And on the backend: Montreal has gotten points out of 5 of their last 6 games, winning 4 outright.

And this actually surprised me: Montreal has the #1 PK in the league right now.
