Don't forget Schultz as a bottom pairing guy and SUtton as your number 7. That's gold on D.
Think about this...
Suter-Klefbom
Smid-Petry
Whitney-Schultz
How good is that?!
that's a solid D, but I don't see Klef here next year, but still...
Suter-Whitney
Smid-Petry
Schultz-(Potter/Sutton)
Still a solid D, amazing what adding a #1 dman to your team will do. I'm so for opening the bank to Suter (10 years - 80 Million). Sure it's a lot, but he's exactly what this team needs. This team does not need an 18 year old dman, we need a 24 to 27 year old first pairing, puck moving dman. Suter is that guy and he's also a UFA in 4 months. No dman in this draft will help this team for at 2 years, and more realistically 3 or 4. Dmen take time, even the good ones. To think Murray or Dumba will jump right in as 18/19 year olds and play big minutes is completely unrealistic.
He's a free agent, so I believe he was talking about money.
I thought he was RFA, oops.
In that case, how much is he worth to us? 7 mil per for 5 years? 35 million total? 7 mil is an overpay but that's probably what it would take to get him here.

Suter will get more than $7M from some team. Though he might sign in a place like Detroit for a bit less.
Petry skates very well, makes solid passes and is now bringing the physicality we expect from someone his size. He is going to be a great #2, possibly #1, the improvement from last year has been drastic, who is to say he doesnt hit the next level?
Suter will get offers of 7.5 million from teams that are favorites to sign him to begin with. Oilers would have to break the bank.
Agreed. I think if the Oilers have any prayer of getting Suter the offer probably starts at $9 million and probably has to be $9 + million. Det might be able to get him for $7.5 or $8 million. NOT EDMONTON
Wasn't Pronger in the top 5 in the NHL in giveaways the season he played for Edmonton?
Chara is top 15 in giveaways, so ya I'd agree with you. I just found it odd how the poster used it to bash Gilbert in one thread and then 2 minutes later is praising Petry as a much better d-man, but has a much worse giveaway number.

I agree it could happen, he reminds me of Edler. There isn't a skill he doesn't possess, and he looks to be on the path of putting everything together. Basically this is a toolsy player with confidence. I'm getting excited, there has always been this quiet hype and it looks like it was fully on merit.

Oh yeah I completely agree with what you did. Love how they phrased it too.

yeah add all the physical tools to the fact that he is a smart kid and the potential is there. He knew if he wanted to be a regular he had to limit his mistakes and he has, he also knew that he would have to bring a physical element to the games and he has. Seems very coachable and at his age he still has 10-15 years in the league. hopefully he morphs into a beast and Dumba/Murray can play second fiddle to him. if that is the case then we will be a very very good team.

That's what's got me so impressed with him and why imo he's succeeded at every level he's played. Anything he gets told to work on, he takes it to heart and DOES get better. There's literally not one part of his game he hasn't improved

I just wish they would tell him to work on his Powerplay and then actually give him the opportunity. The last time he was on the PP was when he didn't have the confidence he does now, I'd like to see what he can do.

i understand whitney on the PP ahead of Petry but potter? and barker? lol come on man.
PP#1 should be Petry-Whitty - Hall-Nuge-Ebs everytime

The problem with breaking the bank on a UFA dman is we have set the salary bar....if Suter is making 9 mil, then what should Hall, Eberle and RNH expect to make?
I WANT Suter...but I don't know if I want to wreck our future salary negotiation leverage. What is more important? I don't know the answer to it.
Petry is a gift from the hockey Gods. A fusion of Smid-Gilbert-Neidermeyer. Blocks shots, shuts down top lines, and is an unbelievable playmaker. He is our solid no.1 D-man going forward.
Theo Peckham and Cam Barker need to be shown the door. As well as Alex Plante, (hope he getse better). As Tyler Fedun will probably make the cut next year, and eventually be paired with Petry
