NEWS & NOTES

QUOTES TO NOTE

I don't think tonight was one of our best nights, holding onto pucks down low or creating chances. They had a lot of time in our end, but we defended well. Obviously that's a huge part of that win.
You know, you need that throughout the year. Hank's going to have to take games for us and we're going to have to defend well in games when we aren't holding onto pucks.
- Ryan Callahan

Cally is a 2nd-3rd-4th-effort kinda guy who leads by example, you know what I mean? He's not a rah-rah guy, he's not 38 years old with 18 years of experience.
But all our guys follow him, and we follow him because night in and night out, his level of effort is always going to be the highest of anybody on the ice for both sides.
- Brad Richards

Hank was not going to let a puck in. You could sense that. It was a game where we need that because we were sloppy. He was absolutely fantastic.
Henrik should have six hats on tonight.
- John Tortorella

Rangers at home, against the Black Hawks... Man, this is an exciting match to look forward to. This guy at work is a BH fan and we have been talking about this match for weeks. Tonight it's finally time to see who will walk around smiling tomorrow and who ends up paying for drinks on Friday night

Teams on massive skids concern me. All must end at some point or another.

Wish we'd give Lundqvist some rest.

Play Lundqvist and try to make their losing streak 10.

They're due for a win. Rangers are kind of due also. If they must lose one of the next three I would prefer tonight/Sunday over giving the Pens two points.

That being said I hope they get six out of the next six.

I wonder if Lundqvist rests tonight and plays against the Jackets (we saw Torts use that strategy with the Devils/Buffalo back to back). Make sure the easy win is in the bag, and take what you can from the harder game.

That being said, we can for sure win this game. Slumping team with bad goaltending.

One can only assume that a team as good as Chicago is due for a win. Can we try and not let it happen tonight?

based on few Hawks matches I saw lately, I can say their defense is terrible comparing to high NYR standard (Keith, Seabrook are just plain wrong 50% of time) in addition to goalies who are under 90% in SVP. This will definitely be one of easier wins lately. Rangers can score 5 today and get max 2.

Play Henrik... Chicagos on a skid but they are still scary on paper. Then go Biron against Columbus and back to Hank for the Pens

I'd play Hank tonight and then give him four days off before the Pens game. Biron should be able to beat the Jackets. Sure the Hawks are slumping, but I'd still rather have Hank go up against Kane, Toews, Hossa and Sharp.

Blackhawks will come out EXTRA hard. Playing the top team in the East, wanting to end the losing streak, and on the 'stage' of MSG. Not to mention, its not everyday Kane, Toews and co. come into town.

Hank plays tonight, Biron vs Columbus.

Damn TBA has a great GAA, but what an awful save %.

Anyway, play Lundqvist and start Biron against Columbus.

Everybody should know how good the hawks "can" be. Just because they are slumping hardcore doesn't mean you give them a pass.

Lundqvist.

Came in to post exactly this. The Rangers have a target on their backs now...don't be surprised if the Hawks come out with one of their best efforts of the season.

Hold off the onslaught by playing NYR hockey and two points should come.

Yep Marty B it seems to be.

Maybe we can limit some shots on goal against as a result.

********. Torts has to stop coddling Lundqvist. The guy can play 70 games if needed. We're putting Biron who hasn't played well lately against the #5 offense in the NHL when we have a perfect chance to put him against the worst team in the league next game. I know Lundqvist played 3 games in 4 nights, but that's the biggest workload he had all season. Come playoffs he'll play every other game. What's 4 games in 6 nights in an 82 game season. Worst thing is this is my first game of the season, and I'll have to watch Biron play.

We're in the playoffs. Tortorella really buys into that stat, where no goaltenders that have won the cup since 06-07 have played more than like 64 games.

So will he give Lundqvist Columbus off too? Because if not that's a ridiculous choice to have him play Chicago and not Columbus.

They write up who starts before the season begins, not according to who is higher in the standings at any given time.

Torts has said they schedule starts well ahead of time.

Don't agree with this decision, but the team DOES need to learn how to play without Hank bailing them out.

I'm sure this is where Torts is coming from.
