With the Caps projected to finish between 14-18 in the league, Habs would get a solid pick and would likely fall quickly in the standings, ensuring a top 3 pick. Draft the BPA. Call up Tinordi, Beaulieu, Eakin, Schultz and other young guys, have one more bad year and draft MacKinnon if possible. It's time to rebuild. At that point your core group of Price, Pacioretty, Subban, are all young veterans in their prime.

It has nothing to do with the fact Montreal is tanking or not. If Habs were to shop Plekanec, which I hope they don't, this is definitely not the type of return they should be looking for.
I like Eakin too, and loved his role on team Canada a couple of years ago. But he's nothing more than Leblanc-lite at this point. And Marshall, while still too young to be called a bust, doesn't project much better than a bottom-pairing D right now. In my opinion, he'll be nothing more than a NHL tweener, but I might be wrong on this one. Wrong or not, he's not the type of asset I'd be looking for in a package for Plekanec.
Your proposal is simply brutal.
