Also, a little time after that a bigger venue opened at the old RJ's/liqourdome (now torn down and condos), called Capital Music Hall (I think). They held about 1000, Barrymore's holds about 500. After that music hall got torn down, it moved to a smaller, ****** venue by York I think, and never reallly survived long.

Barrymore's was a great live venue, holding Radiohead, Headstones, Moist, Rusty, gob, U2, etc,etc.... what a shame!
Zaphods 2 was an AWESOME venue. That's a blast from the past. I saw Coldcut there, one of the best electronic shows I've ever been to, it was one of the first ones where they tried to "scratch video". I can't believe Zaphods 2 opened and closed so quickly. It's a Rogers now. Lame.

Also, Capital Music Hall was the best venue in the city when it was open. Saw a TON of shows there, none better than the Tea Party's farewell show. The current Capital Music Hall is balls compared to the original.

Has anyone heard any rumors about bands playing at Ottawa bluesfest this year. I know the official line up comes out on April 24. All I heard for rumors is Slash.

Coldplay,
Foster the People
Jack White - Good possibility from what I saw looking at his tour schedule. He's in Germany on July 5th, but then nothing until the 20th when he's in Denver.

Beruit - In Quebec City and Montreal from the 13th to the 17th and according to their tour schedule, they're free from July 1st until then. Definitely means it's a possibility.

Black Keys - Have no shows from May 19th, to July 20th that are listed. So maybe? But they are listed as in Canada starting August 4th. So we'll see! I hope so though. They're awesome and not getting to hear much from them last year was a huge disappointment.

Tom Jones - I think it's safe to say he's a no go. He's in Europe during the whole festival. This makes me sad. </3

Silversun Pickups - No listed shows from July 5th to 14th. But the one on the 14th is in Toronto. So definitely another good possibility.

Coldplay - No shows between July 9th and 23rd. The one on the 23rd is in Toronto. So defnitely hoping that means something.

Foster The People - No shows from July 7th until August 18th. *Fingers are crossed*

I've also heard Aerosmith thrown around -- they're in the area, touring with Cheap Trick -- and *shudder* Nickelback.

Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper are touring at the same time and appear to be locks.

Def Leppard and Poison, too, are on tour and have dates available and will be in the area.

John Mellancamp is also rumoured (I think he's playing the Sarnia Bluefest).

The Dirty Projectors are confirmed, according to their website.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Feist also are rumoured to play Bluesfest.

I'm hoping Wilco comes, as they're doing a few shows in the summer and have most of Bluesfest open. Alejandro Escovedo is touring once again, so I could see him back in Ottawa. Lynyrd Skynyrd has dates open after July 8.

Only slightly tied to Bluesfest... I wish the Foo Fighters would make a visit up here.

because i'm a music snob, and i'd rather keep the amount of crappy bands at bluesfest at a low (if the rumours about Nickleback are true)

respectfully, I disagree....

Chuck Klosterman on Coldplay:
"[Coldplay is] a British pop group whose success derives from their ability to write melodramatic alt-rock songs about fake love. It does not matter that Coldplay is the ********* ****ing band I've ever heard in my entire ****ing life, or that they sound like a mediocre photocopy of Travis (who sounds like a mediocre photocopy of Radiohead), or that their greatest ****ing artistic achievement is a video where the blandly attractive frontman walks on a beach on a cloudy afternoon. None of that matters. What matters is that Coldplay manufactures fake love as frenetically as the Ford ****ing Motor Company manufactures Mustangs. . . "For you I bleed myself dry," sang the blockhead vocalist, brilliantly informing us that stars in the sky are, in fact, yellow."

I don't care what anyone says Parachutes was an awesome album. All recent Coldplay has been trash but damn, A rush of blood and their first album were fantastic. I'm so glad I got to see them live during both those tours.

I hate Coldplay and Nickelback. My friend almost punched out Chad in a bar last year... Would've been a hero (http://www.cultureslant.com/funny/ch...neck-beatdown/ )

Wow, 2 years ago. I've lost track.

I could see this being a cluster**** on the first day of the festival...

Quote:
People are counting down the days until the Bluesfest line-up is announced — but they won’t be counting their change.

The outdoor music festival is taking a cue from its country cousins and implementing a cash-free beer system.

Capital Hoedown Country Music Festival has used a cash-free system since the inception of the festival in 2010.

Ray Skaff is Director, Communications & External Relations at Capital Hoedown.

He says patrons are required to purchase food and beverage tickets at one of the designated tents throughout the festival grounds.

Well, I'll add to my list of rumoured acts that was quoted above with some new info for Bluesfest.

July 4th - Paul Oakenfold - Confirmed on his website
July 5th - LMFAO - Again, confirmed.
July 6th - The Scorpions and Tesla - Looking extremely likely.
July 7th or 8th - Blue Rodeo - Confirmed
July 9th or 10th - Coldplay - Speculation with evidence
July 12th - John Cougar Mellancamp - Speculation with evidence

The ugly Nickelback rumour seems to be just that. While they do have a gap in their tour sched during Bluesfest, it seems designed to give the band a two week break.

I've recently heard Aerosmith over and over, but don't really have any tour schedule evidence for them.

Same with Iron Maiden, who was just here a couple of years ago at Bluesfest, but seems to be popping up in rumours.

-They're playing every burg in North America on this tour, including 8 announced shows in Canada so far.

-They have open dates during Bluesfest.

-They are in the Northeast during Bluesfest.

-They tend to make stops in Ottawa on their tours.

-They are the most speculated band for Bluesfest this year. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

So yeah, speculation + evidence.

Basically any group or artist with open dates in July is "speculation with evidence" for Bluesfest lol.

Isn't that what we're doing here? Speculating on Bluesfest acts?

Short of Mark Monahan coming on here and posting the line-up, that's the best you're gonna get. Sorry.

wow...after living overseas for the last 3 years, if this is what bluesfest has become, that sucks..... (outside of BR and JCM)

I know. I'm just saying there is no logic to much of the speculation.

"My favourite band has open tour dates in July. Therefore, I think they are coming Bluesfest."
