Protecting the team's interests just means so he won't steal the team's secret hockey plan.

Hockey Buzz Eklund @Eklund
Scratch Philly off the list of Teams Kubina could be headed to. Add the Rangers and Senators.

i understand that, but he's still a big time goalie prospect. you don't just deal him for a low pick just because. they could easily hold on to him and re-sign him and then deal him when he's got a longer contract.

i'm not saying the blues should get a 1st rounder for him or anything, just suggesting that if all they can get is a 4th rounder, it might be better to hang on to him.

Kubina to Flyers in the next hour

EDIT: Any chance of Ben Bishop re-signing went out the door the moment Brian Elliott got a 2 year extension. He would be crazy to re-sign here. Kid deserves a chance and it doesn't appear that will happen here.

Wonder if the Bruins are in play for him.

Kubina to the Rangers, reunited with Torts, helps their PP.

Why would he re-sign with Stl? To be 3rd string just so they can trade him? He'll be UFA. He'll sign with a team like Tampa who needs a #1 goalie. Stl either trades him or loses him for nothing.

If Eklund says no Kubina to the Flyers, then Kubina won't be a Flyer.

The only team Eklund has a source to and has an inside scoop on is Philly and he is pretty reliable when it comes to us.

The only team I actually think he has a connection to is the Flyers. He got the Carter, Richards trades before all I believe. Also this year he called the Coburn extension the night before he singed.

Well, Eklund is usually right about Flyers oriented stuff, so my belief is that the Flyers really aren't interested in Kubina. As for the Senators being interested, that is likely false.

I really don't know why the Flyers havn't made a move for a d-man yet... now Meszaros is day-to-day and we have to dress Lilja. Maybe Holmgren really is waiting for JVR to get healthy to deal him for Schenn?

Twitter (won't say who..) says Sharks looking into Kubina.

He might have a price larger than some of us think. He's underrated.

Gonchar + 1st
for
Malone and Kubina

I think something around Kubina and Gonchar could work though, Tampa's DMen are pathetic defensively and not too many UFA DMen are as good as Gonchar offensively.

Tell Lindy Ruff and Tom Renney that or Taylor Hall in warmups. Odds slim, but why take the chance if you don't need to.

Or Marty St. Louis this year. With Dom Moore firing backhands...everyone is a target!

Van Sure could use a RH D man with a little size.

Depending on his price it could be a gillis move to pick him up for mid round picks or tier 2 prospects.

sorry not sure how the big cap hit from gonchar and the fact hes close to calling it a career make him a good fit for the lightning who will most likely miss the playoffs this year. Malone can probably get them more especially considering the lack of talent openly available for the trade deadline this year. oh and if ottawa continues at this pace that 1st is a late one so not worth as much. i dont think yzerman will bite on this.

It wouldn't even surprise me if Scott Howson trades for Kubina then gave him a 1 year extension with a no-trade clause.

I remember when the Thrashers picked up Kubina and Tim Stapleton for Garnet Exelby. Great trade.

Kinda hoping the Blues get him.
