Wonder if Edmonton would listen to dealing Paajarvi...he needed a stint in Oklahoma, has been struggling this season.

I like his speed and think he would compliment Gaborik and Stepan well.

Though I don't see why the Oilers would trade a '91 but I'd give up Zuccarello and a pick for Paajarvi.

Ray Whitney

Rangers fans, what are your thoughts on potentially getting Ray Whitney at the deadline (if the Coyotes pack it in)? Would you all rather look to get him or a bigger name like a Nash or Carter? I think this may be something to look into for the Rangers being that Whitney is an offensive and power play specialist and he can fill some of the scoring needs we have. Maybe even jumpstart the play of Richards and/or Dubinsky.

Me personally, i think we should look to get a guy like Whitney for the playoffs and then think about what it may take for Bobby Ryan while monitoring Parise's contract status over the offseason.

What do you think it will take to get a guy like Whitney?

I would love Whitney, but I don't think the Coyotes are selling. I might give a 1st for him, if not something like 2nd+Zuc+Yogan/Bourque

Looking at what has been driving Phoenix's success this year its going to take a lot. The Yotes are making a drive towards the playoffs again and if they are serious about making that there is no way they deal Whitney. Also he has a limited NTC where he can only be traded to 8 teams so there is a chance that Whitney wouldn't want to come here. It would take a decent amount tho...im guessing a high pick and a decent prospect

Phoenix is not selling, they are buying. This has been covered countless times in numerous threads.

In their last 7 games they are 6-0-1 and in the last 6 have allowed only 4 goals (plus one shootout loss goal)

Souray may not be on the Rangers list of Dmen to target but if he was Dallas is tight on the cap, perhaps they take Wolski as a salary cap move......the need a Dman back so Bickel and a 3rd round pick?

also if not Kubina , Brett Clark is a TB Dman that blocks shots, some PP time I believe, maybe he can help as a rental. More on the cheap

Avs may have some Dmen out there. O'Brien but hes more of a bottom pair guy so dont see the point

Oduya would make some sense as a top 4 rental

much rather have Wilson or Quincy over O'Brien...O'Brien takes dumb penalties at the worst time. he would make the Rangers tougher but alot of PK time as well. Quincy or Wilson are a better fit for the Rangers maybe Zuccarello or Avery as part of the deal..... Oduya is solid as well..but wouldnt offer more than Wolski for him..not a fan of Clark..would like Kubina.....Souray id deal Wolski and thats all.

Dallas is barely over the cap floor and Souray's cap hit is only 1.65 mil. They just traded Grossman and are 4 points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand. They aren't trading Souray.

He's worth more to them than he'd be to another team. Plus, the guy has the wheels, but seems to lack most other aspects that you'd want to see in a top-six scorer.

Still think we're going to trade Zucc+ for Ruutu.

Unfortunately, GAGLine is right.
If Stars collapse, 1 dimensional Souray with his shot from point would appeal to Rangers (if there are no big contract issues after the season), and some variation on something small I could see Stars doing.

But not until last minute if at all.

I have him good speed AND size, but little else.
He could still fit here.
He could be a role player + fit there in Edmonton
Oilers would have to take less for him, they won't unless cap space or other factors come into play --- not at present.
He's affordable enough for Rangers at discount (bargain is better, but discount good enough).
His cap going forward may not be worth the risk, unless this subdeal was part of a bigger package.
(If there is a deal with Edmonton for a sniper, then an overpayment of Dubi for MPS is could be a piece of it.)

They're better off holding onto Jack Johnson and strategizing around Quick, playing a defensive minded game hoping they can win games 1-0 and 2-1.
All offense is no good and all defense is too weak. We're getting away with it for the moment because Lundqvist is phenomenal, and even then, if he has an off game vs. a team with snipers we are embarrassed.

The Canadiens of old were great across the board, if you're gonna plan to develop a team around a mold, that's the one to go with.

Nice in theory but don't see TB doing it.
TB 2nd, 5th + 6th 2012
for
Thomas, Rangers 3rd + 4th in 2012

we keep a couple of depth picks, EO advances there
We move up for their 2nd.
They get boom bust in Thomas to tutor under M. St. Louis.

As an alternative to gutting our team for Nash, how do Rangers fans feel about Kostitsyn? He has been woefully underutilized on Montreal and the Rangers could probably get him on the cheap - could end up being a very pleasant surprise for NYR.

Only problem I see here is that Gainey isn't the Habs GM anymore

I like Kostitsyn though, would be a good injection of skill into the lineup and would come much cheaper than Nash...not to mention he's a UFA after this season.

I'd be okay with that, as long as they don't ask for McDonagh back

No, I'm thinking 2nd and a middling prospect (Yogan/Lindberg type). Don't know if Montreal would take that or if Ranger fans think that's too much for a rental of AK's ability.
