Confirm from NHL: Marchand not subject to hearing for 2m clip.
Slight faith in NHL restored.

Good.

Still think it was a stupid play by him given the circumstances of the game at the time and the environment he's in, but glad the NHL is doing the right thing.

Will they look at Gill's knee on Peverley? Probably not.

Really? I thought it was great. Someone at least showing that the Habs weren't going to push us around that night. Emelin was running amok and Marchand stepped up with a nice hit himself.

I applaud the hit. And in NO WAY was it even CLOSE to being suspension-worthy.

It was a butt to a tad below the butt hit.

He was trying to lessen the blow, if anything.

Again....right or wrong, he's under watch, he needs to be careful. That's all I'm saying.

Not saying it was a bad hit, but he isn't exactly the most disciplined player. I can see him "getting away" with something and then taking it a step further, going a bit lower, until he is in illegal territory.

I think Marchand can be pretty boneheaded at times, but I'm kind of glad to see that the suspension for 'clipping' didn't make him change his game any. I stand by my belief that he's just throwing hip checks like anyone else and shouldn't take that move out of his game unless they ban hipchecks outright.

Now, granted the one last night was borderline and I can live with them calling it a penalty, and I can also live with Marchand throwing a dirty hit at that point in the game b/c it was clearly payback on Emelin for drilling Thornton in the numbers earlier in the game. Say what you want about Marchand, but most of his 'dirty' hits are retaliatory hits which makes it a little less reprehensible at least.

there is a direct correlation with the lack of bruins hate threads and the bruins mediocre play lately.

Bring back the hate, the wins will follow

It's only an awkward play because he delivered a hipcheck to a stationary player. The fact it was even 2 minutes is up for debate.

Kate I would ask you to consider two things though:

1. The Canadiens outhit the Bruins badly. The soft, timid, easily intimidated Habs outhit them, easily. Subban lined up Seguin and Marchand for huge hits, yet again. Why can't you be okay with the idea of our chippy player tiptoeing over a line to get back at a guy who had yapped with Shawn thornton, of all people, earlier in the game? And I remind you, this is a Habs team not above diving to win games.

2. Marchand hasn't done a damn thing since he's come back from suspension. If he needs to play with an edge to get his game going, to build up some hate fromthe opponent to motivate himself, why is that not a good thing? Because he might get suspended for a few games here and there? Who cares?

I said it last night and I'll say it again...play the style that wins for you. "Pay the fines and serve the suspensions. Lather, rinse, repeat."

This team does not have the luxury right now to serve the suspensions. Down Horton and Peverley, I'd prefer to not lose Marchand to suspension.

You can play on the edge, but when it turns into suspensions, you've fallen off that edge. He has a target on his back, and it's foolish to pretend it's not there.

Agree - Looked to us like he tried to stop after the puck left and lost balance.

The reality is that Shanahan is most times not going to overrule the refs. I bet that if they had given five and a game, that Brad is on the phone at 1pm to New York.

Regardless of the hit itself.

Lol, I just clicked on the link on the NE threads for what I thought was the Bruins board and I was about to write something before I realized it was the Habs board. I was wondering why Bruins fans were so upset, didn't make any sense.

Certainly not a clip so it's good no punishment was sent down.

It was punishment enough watching that officiating last night.

Marchand when asked about hit on Emelin clipping last night: "It's a physical game. We're big boys. We can take a hit." http://www.csnne.com/blog/bruins-tal...2&feedID=10428

Spot on MMB.

As much as I despise Marchand as a player I won't criticize this hit because it was a clean, legal hip check. Johnny Bucyk used to make this kind of hit all the time. Chief was THE master of the hip check and it looks like Marchand has taken a page out of his book.

And fwiw I don't think Marchand should have been suspended for that earlier hit either.

But no, I still don't like him as a player.
