This guy is the real deal IMO. He does need to adjust to the North American game but a player of his caliber I don't think it will be a huge issue, and it doesn't hurt that he's been playing against men the last three years and excelling. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he turns out to be a great top four PMD and he definately does have the potential to be more.

I`m really confused with Vatanen.

As someone already posted, i don`t count on him much, since it is hard to say if he will succeed in NHL. But i guess i wouldn`t be surprised if he would shock the NA hockey either.

Meh, just have to wait and see i guess.

Still think he should play a year in the AHL, and become first call-up on D. Lydman won't be ready until November probably, and Guenin should get first shot considering how much Boudreau leaned on him late in the season. It also doesn't hurt to have a big body on that third pair.

Lasch is proof that size still does mean something. That doesn't mean a smaller player can't succeed. It just means it might be tougher for them.

Rafalski is maybe the best example.

I wasn't saying Vatanen is Lasch. Just that being a smaller player in the NHL is a challenge, and it can impact a player's ability to be effective. If Vatanen is talented enough to overcome it, then he'll do so. At this point all we can do is wait and see, and let him prove where he belongs.

Vatanen is not that small, he's gotten bigger since being drafted, he has high end skills, so i'm not to terribly worried, there will be an adjustment period but I see no reason why he won't be a good player

That was pretty neat to see. I mean everything he said was expected, but it's still great to hear him say it.

Eh. He's got big competition in Fowler, Beauchemin, and Sbisa.

I'm just hoping he's good enough to soften the impact of potentially losing Schultz. The only thing that would suck is if schultz actually returned. 4 pmds on that blueline. I would think that Vatanen would go to the AHL if that were the case.

Stupid Starbucks won't load the video.

In the AHL maybe. He won't be higher than 5 on the depth chart if he makes the NHL.

He won't be ahead of Lydman or Visnovsky either, not by a long shot.

Unless Vatanen is the next Bobby Orr, he won't be the #1 D next year. In the NHL you work your way up the depth chart, and there are players clearly ahead of him. I think the best opportunity he'll see is some PP time.

Really do hope he's as good or as close to as talented as Schultz. I mean top finnsh dman for...what? 2 years now? That's gotta say something. I'll even take better.

No he is not the best Finnish D-man (atleast for now). He is the best in SM-liiga, but i`ve heard that some of Finlands best players plays in other leagues to.

I really see him more AHL time than NHL`s next season. Because of the fact we have PMD`s in Fowler and Vis, and we also have pretty young D line aready.

I'm expecting him to start in the AHL, unless he just blows everyone away at training camp. I imagine Anaheim is going to want him to get used to the smaller ice, and more physical North American game.

Do we have AHL club? but yeah AHL at first might be good but I expect him to be a Duck around December.

If it isn't, I may join the fire Murray bandwagon. Another season without an AHL affiliate is not something I ever want to repeat.
