Vatanen is probably reading this thread and wondering what the hell is going on.

That is what I'm doing. I keep seeing the thread getting posts and hoping it's useful information and then well.. it's not

Vatanen is awsome but he has not played a single game yet in the NHL. He needs to prove is he capable under bright lights. Stop speculation, only time will disclose.

Kid's gonna be good. How good? We'll see. But yeah, he's definitely a boom/bust kind of prospect, and I hope he booms.

If true, that means Toni is gone, not before the season starts, but by the deadline very likely.

Doesn't make sense to me personally, seems like information pre first day of FA before we signed anyone.

Where is the bust part? He is a pretty safe bet since he works as hard as he does and isn't at all reluctant to play defensively if needed. I just don't see the bust risk there...

Vatanen isn't just offence...the kid can defend also. But he needs adjustment to NA style and how to handle the bigger opponents etc. We'll see but expectations are high... at least amongst Finnish fans

Ya I think that hole closed when Souray was added. Murray kept referring to Schultz to help PP. Trading Lydman for anything other then a package for a 2nd line center is a giant mistake IMO. He's more valuable then people are giving him credit for.

I agree. When healthy he is a pretty solid defender. I think he is worth more to us than he would fetch in a trade. He's nothing more than spare parts in any trade for a #2C. If he has a solid year I think he could fetch a second round pic at the deadline if we go down that road.

Spare parts? For a team that needs one more defender to round out their bottom 4... He is more than spare parts. Especially if they have a surplus of offensive talent... I'd trade him for a center/ wing if possible.

Although, I woulda loved to see Lydman and Vatinen play together...

Well, as I said, I like him too. But he will be 35 in September and would not be the cornerstone of any team's D. And if that team were giving up a #2C then I think Toni would have to be spare parts in that deal. He certainly wouldn't be the centerpiece.

I like talk of giving kids a shot. If this next season is a struggle, some kids stepping up would be something positive to follow.

Vatanen can be sheltered on the bottom pair anyway.

I agree with Vatanen being sheltered on the bottom pairing, but I would assume he would be receiving a lot of ice time on the PP unit. Talk about a win-win situation: learning curve in not so drastic situations for half the season and help improve the PP efficiency.

35 lbs? That has to be a mistake.

He might be bigger, but 35 lbs in one off season just doesn't sound right. That's a huge gain in a short time. Maybe it's a typo? 6kg/13lbs? I could believe that.

16 kilos is to much. 16 lbs maybe?

Skinner gained 10lbs this offseason andd looks pretty big now (over 200 lbs) http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/con...185669&lang=en No Justin Bieber anymore.

Can you say more about that interview?

Sami does not say anything about weight gain himself. The reporter mentions that he has gained 16kg of muscle and now better prepared to NHL than a year ago. It has to be mistake. 5kg of pure muscle in a year would be a lot. 16kg is indeed impossible.

Earning 35 lbs of muscle in a couple of months doesn't happen. I'm not even sure it would happen with performance enhancing drugs. It's a mistake.
