"Nicklas Grossman shows he's a game-changer when he shows his physical side"
I remember that article. There are occasions where he'll hit a few times over a few games and hope he's finally going to turn into a physical guy but it doesn't happen. I can't think of any crushing hits he's laid and I watch every game.

I'm not overly familiar with his game, so I'll defer to others. Dave Brown (the Flyers' Dir. of Personnel) made comments earlier that have been posted, too.
The Hockey News' lists assets and flaws:
ASSETS: Has a great combination of size and poise from the back end. Owns the ability to log important minutes and excel on the penalty kill.
FLAWS: Lacks the skill level to put up good point totals at the highest level. Is somewhat inconsistent in terms of his physical presence on the ice.

That article is over a year old. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how he does. Hopefully that puts an end to the talk of bringing Gill here.

Inconsistent physicality sounds right. It's not like he's soft by any means but I wouldn't call him physical either. Anyway, he'll help y'all this season regardless.
For those dismissing the value of second and third round picks, we drafted nick cousins from the OHL in last years draft in the third round and it looks like he is going to be a pretty darn good player.
I have also heard his name used in potential trade offers because other teams will be asking about him.
so is there any way money-wise that they could still trade for that tyutin guy? (i am pretty sure they will not make any more moves but it's fun to speculate)
Are there any other cases of this being done successfully? I never heard of any.
Mathieu Dandenault was a forward for a few seasons before becoming a bottom pairing dman for the Red Wings in the late 90's I think. Brent Burns used to be a forward, didn't he? He plays like it at least.

It's good that we don't have to have Carle as a regular pker anymore. Hopefully Grossman will fit in immediately and we can give Timonen a little less time on the pk as well.
“In the next two weeks, if nothing changes — meaning if everybody plays approximately .500 — who are the sellers?” he said. “There usually are a lot more sellers at the trade deadline than there currently are and than currently looks to be on Feb. 27. How many teams are going to be sellers on Feb. 27?”
Quote:
“Today, when you make a call, I’m one of 20 teams that’s calling one of four or five teams and we’re all calling about the same player,” Poile said. “So it’s clearly a seller’s market.
“It means that there’s not going to be the high-end players available. It means that the price for whatever you’re going to do … you’re going to have to pay an outrageous, inflated value to get a player whether he’s a rental or he’s a signed player.”
Those are the words of David Poile, the GM of Nashville, one of the best GM's in the game imo. Might explain why the price was slightly high for Grossman.
I'm good with this. Sounds like he could be a 2nd pairing guy. Hopefully this ends the insane rumours of a JVR/Schenn trade. I want no part of a #6/7 d-man from a weak NHL team. Especially not for a top-6 forward.
Now just find a 3rd/4th line utlility player that could also take a faceoff if needed. Someone similar to Peverley. Not that every other team isn't looking for guys like that.
Well in a really deep draft year, a 2nd would have been nice.
I actually still think it's pretty hit and miss in deep drafts. Many say the 2003 draft was the deepest in a good while and the 2nd round in that draft wasn't all that special. Noteworthy players included Weber, Carle, Bergeron, Howard, Backes, and Eriksson in a round that had 37 picks. So basically 6 players out of 37 in the deepest recent draft were at least decent noteworthy NHL players.
Stars fans have been incredibly rough on Grossman this year. He doesn't suck, he's not terrible, he does hit incredibly hard, and he's pretty great on the PK.
All of our teams sucks dick because we have a losing attitude and players who don't lead by example (minus Benn and Eriksson)
