RIP Gary Carter from a Yankee fan. A great talent but from what I hear an even better person.

I was at the game at Shea Stadium when Carter slid hard into John Stearns at home plate while still playing for the Expos and a bench clearing brawl ensued. Carter was hated by Met fans for that until he came to play with the Mets. Funny how things change. Carter was one of the few players that really took time to talk to fans. You knew this day was coming but you still don't like to hear when it happens.

I remember Gary coming up with the Expos. What an amazing catcher. He was always one of the most real players you would come across in any sport. He never hid his emotions out there, and people recognized his enthusiasm and his drive and loved him for it.

Obviously he meant a lot to the New York Mets community. I was really happy for him when they won it all. Gary is the kind of guy people never forget. Too bad he went so soon, but what a mark he left.
