I would definitely be an advocate of adding a guy like Allen. He's not just a big physical body (we have that in Alberts) but he can actually play serviceable minutes. He also doesn't put up with anyone so much as looking at his goaltender the wrong way (something ingrained into him from his days protecting Cloutier).
I know he doesn't have the offensive ability some would like, but you're going to pay a premium for guys with that.
Could Kubina fit in to the Canucks? Sorry if I missed any previous discussion on this topic but I noticed that he was available today
I'd be interested. His offensive game has dropped a bit, but he's an experienced defender who could log some solid minutes for the team. Having a guy who has won the Cup on the team could be helpful, too.
We would have to shed salary to accommodate him. He's really not worth it and I personally don't see him as an upgrade on Sulzer.
Seriously? I'm aware that he hasn't played that well this year, but he's a proven NHL veteran with a ring and almost 400 points in the league. He's also a real big body and is actually a plus player on a team that has atrocious goaltending. Sulzer is a somewhat competent depth piece that really only has the ability to eat up a few minutes. He rarely contributes offensively and provides next to nothing physically. I'm not terribly high on Kubina either, but let's have some perspective.

I could care less what Kubina has done over his career. I care about what he can do for this team now and from what I see the answer isn't much, especially when you consider what we would have to move to acquire/accommodate him. He's not much of an upgrade over the depth we have.

Consider what we gave up for Higgins and Lappiere. Were you content when we acquired them? They weren't playing well with their respected teams and it paid off dividends.
I think if we can get him for not much I'd consider it, but if the price is too much then I'm sure we can find depth elsewhere.

Higgins and Lapierre are much younger than Kubina and combined make less than Kubina. We didn't have to move significant assets to acquire him or to accommodate his salary.
I let out a huge sigh of relief when I heard the list of teams for Nash.
We really don't need him, at all.
Moving forward, I wish the Canucks would look to add a #4-5 d-man that can play on the right side, but I have a feeling that they'll look for a gritty 3rd line winger.
