Nah, Philly has to add.

JVR is damaged goods this season. I'd be interested in an offseason swap.

The majority of people in the JvR vs Schenn poll thread said that Toronto would have to add.

1. Toronto won't (and shouldn't) trade for him while he's hurt

2. When he's healthy - whether it's before the trade deadline or in the offseason - the Leafs are certainly the one's adding if there's a deal.

There's no "injury discount" when/if he's back and healthy and there's no trade when he's injured.

I think Philly would prefer to wait it out and wait for a proven number 1 defensmen to become available and make a deal around JVR + for that player.

I think the leafs would look to trade Schenn + for a proven forward and wait for that Stastny, Or E. Staal,Nash type player. Preferably a centre I think they would do it for a power forward.

Yes Leafs want a forward, yes Philly wants a D, but hindsight is 20/20 and both teams don't want to give up potential for potential.

I don't think JVR will be fully healthy this year. He still has that hip impingement to deal with and he's getting surgery in the offseason correct?

I agree that we would have to add a bit to Schenn for a healthy JVR though.

Why would Toronto add for an injured player? Burke probably wants to improve the Leafs for a playoff push.

Meh.. Hopefully Flyers have serious intention to go after a real d-men like Suter. We already have our stay home. Cost us 2nd round pick as you may know.

Correct on the JVR prognosis - which is why I (and you) mentioned the offseason. I don't think JVR has time to get back and prove he's healthy before the deadline. Blessing in disguise, if you ask me.

I didn't say Toronto would add for an injured player. I said they'd add for JVR once he's back healthy. His hip impingement surgery is in no way a long-term/chronic type issue so if he makes it back from his concussion this year and plays, he won't be an injured player in the offseason.

Schenn + 2nd for JVR and it's done. TO adds the 2nd because concussed wingers are harder to find than 7th dmen.

Nope.

JVR + 2nd for Schenn.

Philly adds because JVR is damaged goods and carries considerable risk with his 4.25M extension and an unknown CBA coming up.

With Philly getting Grossman, that make a Schenn to Philly very improbable.

I'd still do JVR and Walker for L. Schenn and Crabb, even with Grossman on-board. The Leafs can even have Jody Shelley.

Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr
Read-Briere-Simmonds
Crabb-B. Schenn-Voracek
Sestito-Couturier-Talbot
Rinaldo

Timonen-Coburn
L. Schenn-Carle
Meszaros-Grossman
Gustafsson, Bourdon

Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky

I actually think that lineup could make a deep run in the playoffs, assuming the GAA goes down with the addition of two defensively-minded d-men. Honestly, I'd be fine with losing 0.2-0.3 goal per game if the goals against per went down by the same amount. It seems strange, but going from 3.32 GPG and 3.00 GAPG to 3.00 GPG and 2.65-2.70 GAPG would probably increase the winning percentage measurably in the last 25 games of the regular season. The Flyers would win the odd 4-3 or 3-2 game that they otherwise would have lost in regulation or OT/SO and maybe gain ground on the Rangers.

Thats because Toronto fans would say they wouldn't, and every other fan would say they would just because its the Leafs.

I think as much as this forum dictates that potential future performance is key to any deal on HF; this is a good deal for both sides. The minutia is rather apparent and the cap is good. The only sidebar to this trade is JVR's health. Concussions are a ***** but ok with players with ELC's.

Or, you know, they think JVR has a little more trade value.

Grossman will play the same roll this year as Schenn would and he only cost the Flyers a 2nd and a 3rd and they get to keep JVR. I'm not suggesting that Schenn will only ever be as good as Grossman, but they play a similar roll of defensive dman, and with the struggles Schenn's had this season he isn't enough of an upgrade on Grossman to justify the loss of a top 6 winger.

Schenn is a 3rd pairing defenseman making way too much money at this point.

According to TFP, the Flyers have made it known that they believe Schenn is over rated. Understandable, he's a healthy scratch on the Leafs... Ouch.

Walker and Shelley are just contracts/cap space. Crabb would put up a few points as a cheap bottom-6 forward in Philly. He's never played on a regular basis with anyone as good as Schenn/Couturier/Voracek.

Schenn has been a healthy scratch in 2 games this year. A 7-0 loss to Boston and last nights' lackluster performance.
