OT: McCabe Retires

I didn't see a thread on this (I'm on my phone so apologies if there was and I missed it) but McCabe announnced his retirement earlier today. He was thrown under th bus here during his final few years but before the lockout he was a beast, especially in the 2002 playoffs.

So.. What is your favorite McCabe memory?

His beauty one-timers from kabby/leetch/sundin.

Hipchecks

Fearless defending the net

Some big goals for us in the 02 and 04 playoffs.

His OT PP goal against Philly after completing 4-5 passes with Sundin and Kaberle.

I know fans got on him towards the end of his career here, but he was a warrior and very much fit in with the crazy, built for the playoffs team we had under Quinn. Not a Leafs great but good memories of him being an integral part of the Sundin years.

who couldn't Chara throw like a rag doll? the league is very lucky he is passive or he could do serious serious damage to a lot of people.

I'll miss the can opener... McCabe's game really fell apart after it became illegal

Seriously though, he was a beauty, too bad he got signed to that awful contract and got ran out of town.

Wish him the best.

the blue mohawk = dedication/commitment.

Dunno what happened w/ the fans who got all over him... was it ego? Sense of entitlement?

Overpaid. And he really got exposed after the lockout because he wasn't the fastest player and his style of play wasn't suited for the clamp down on obstruction penalties.

Pretty much.

Appreciated what he brought to the team and his incredible chemistry with Kabby. Those were some good times.

Enjoy retirement Caber!

i remember when mccabe went on a powerplay surge..i think that was the climax of his career...its unfortunate management overpaid for him which is why fans had a low threshold for him..really not his fault..if your boss offered you a ridiculous raise, youd take it too

Pre-lockout he was a beast unfortunately like many of his peers he just couldn't keep up after the lockout.

He was a beast for the Leafs in the play offs for a while. Him and Kabby were crazy.

I hated him for his player later in his career, for making 5.5 and being one trick pony. After see Komiserak for the past few years, I would have taken Mccabe hands down.

We got him for Karpovtsev, what a trade. We totally fleeced Chicago.

Happy retirement bud

Quinn completely robbed the Blackhawks for McCabe, glad that happened.

His contract and the fact that he was so animated and complained to the refs everytime he was penalized probably didn't help matters either. Take your friggin 2 minutes and shut up already!

The first period of this game sums up how his career ended in Toronto. Three direct giveaways that lead to all of the Flyer goals. The first one though, on a whole other level of bad. Especially how he doesn't even try to stop Recchi after he gives away the puck. Brutal.
