Quick's Next Contract

Right now, it looks like Quick's next contract will average between 6 million and 7 million dollars, barring a very long term deal (i.e. 10 years) that lessens the cap hit or Quick (knock on wood) faltering down the stretch. So I thought I'd take a poll to see what people think Quick's next contract will average, assuming a 6 year contract length.

Here are the comparisons for notable UFA goalie contracts since 2007 (for notable goalies with 2 or more years of starting experience):
11/3/11. Rinne's contract extension is for 7 years, $7 million average.
6/23/11. The first 7 years of Bryzgalov's contract are for $47.5 million, a $6.79 million average.
9/30/09. Ward's contract extension* is for 6 years, $37.8 million, a $6.3 million average. *The extension includes 1 RFA year. Take out the RFA year and he averages $6.56 million.
9/2/09. The first 8 years of Luongo's contract extension are for $57 million, a $7.125 million average.
4/3/09. Thomas's contract extension is for 4 years, $5 million average. Ignoring age (and that Quick plays a few more games as a starter), this is the comparison the Kings would like to make. At this point in time, Thomas had 1 good year as a semi-starter, 1 all right year as a starter , 1 good year as a starter, and 1 elite year as a starter. Of course, that does ignore age and that this was a 35+ contract that was for years 35-39. It has, of course, worked out great for Boston.
3/3/09. Backstrom's contract extension is for 4 years, $6 million average.
7/18/08. Miller's contract extension is for 5 years, $6.25 million each year.
2/14/08. Lundqvist's contract extension is for 6 years, $41.25 million, a $6.875 million average.
10/29/07. Kiprusoff's contract extension was for 6 years, $35 million, a $5.83 million average. Should note the final year is for $1.5 million (the first 5 years average $6.7 million), which wasn't seen as a sure thing he'd be playing then, given how notoriously indifferent Kiprusoff was towards offseason training.

Other notable UFA goalie contracts (without 2 years of starting experience) include:
3/1/11. Niemi's contract extension is for 4 years, $3.8 million average. Niemi is nearing the end of his first year starting. The previous year, he was a semi-starter in the regular season and starter in the playoffs, winning the Stanley Cup.
1/30/10. Hiller's contract extension is for 4 years, $4.5 million average. Hiller is in the midst of his first season as a starter after splitting time with Giguere in 2008-09.
7/1/08. Huet's contract is for 4 years, $5.625 million average. Only had 1 season as the starter, and he only played 52 RS games that year (his next highest season was 42 games).

For reference's sake, the NHL salary cap has been:
$64.3 million in 2011-12
$59.4 million in 2010-11
$56.8 million in 2009-10
$56.7 million in 2008-09
$50.3 million in 2007-08

Were trading him to the Nikko Ice Bucks for former Kings star goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji

Right around $6 million. +/- $500k. We'll have the cap space.

Quick seems to be a team first guy, don't think he will handicap the Kings.

How does he become ilk if he asks for a contract similar to Rinne or Lundqvist? How is he handicapping the team? Especially when Kopitar and Doughty have already been paid very well, and Quick is without question more important.

The question is how much Quick will sign for (assuming a 6 year length), not who he will sign for.

If the Kings keep this up, I'm afraid Quick won't re-sign.

Really?

So Kopitar and Doughty get 7 each.
This franchise pays Penner and Stoll nearly 8 million combined and paid Ryan Smyth over 6 million and you think Quick should come in somewhere around 5?

Quick has played at an MVP caliber level for three seasons behind a garbage team that struggles to score 2 goals a night, never earning more than 2 million a season and you think he owes the Kings a hometown discount?

And who can blame him, what is the NHL record for most 1-0 losses in one season? Quick must be fast approaching that.

Who would want to play Dean Lombardi hockey when there are plenty of other teams that would be willing to pay a ton for a guy like Jonathan Quick while at the same time providing a quality supporting cast, something he doesn't have here.

Imagine Quick on San Jose, Chicago or Tampa Bay

It may not even be about money.
The man deserves to have an elite team around him. Dean Lombardi has never built an elite team in his life.

If San Jose or Chicago for example were offering similiar money to the Kings, where do you think he goes? Which teams are better built to win championships?

Jonathan Quick = Archie Manning

This.

Quick almost never discusses himself if he has the opportunity to talk about his team. That's if we win.

If we lose? Quick is the first to admit blame.

Given the above, I think Mr. Quick takes a deal for $4.5m or so a year. Yes, he's a $6.5m goalie, but he's a team first guy.

Wasn't that the Doughty argument? Or was it the Ovechkin argument? Twelve years ago, that seemed to be the Rob Blake argument.

He is not taking a $2 million per year pay cut just to be a team guy. Get real.

I'll stick to what I've been saying, Between $6.3 and $6.5 million, and that could go up if any major deals are signed between now and when Quick re-ups with LA/tests UFA waters.

He deserves more than Doughty. Quick is the only player on the Kings who seems to care, he shows up every night, he basically is the Kings. The rest of the team ought to give him their paychecks and that includes Dumbo Lombardi.
